Hi Everyone, good news to report .... as mentioned earlier I found multiple devices with the same serial number which was suspected to be causing my issue for a few vm's not having host information. After deleting the other 2 devices with the same serial number, the vm to host relationship was updated accordingly for the missing device after the vcenter rule ran again last night.
In summary then, its very important to verify if multiple devices have the same serial number as a lot of things are based upon the fact that only one device should have a unique serial number / uuid for things to update appropriately. For myself this was a learning exercise which resulted in knowing a lot more about the vcenter rules and how things operate.

Hi Everyone, thanks for the suggestions ... another quick update .. it appears like my issue with the odd vm not showing its Host details is because in one of my examples I had 3 vm's .. different names but with the same serial number. From what I read in another forum thread, the uuid's must match before devices are updated and there must only be one unique uuid per vm. I know what happens in our environment, they reuse the vm's changing their names but keep the same serial number which messses us up in the Flexera world.
In this example I have simply deleted the other 2 devices with the same serial number / uuid and will check things tomorrow after the vcenter rule runs again tonight. Will update things after I see what happens tomorrow after the rule runs. Here is a quick copy and paste from that other forum topic ....
For vmguests, duplicate serial numbers are a strong indication that the uuids are identical as well (this is what the serial number based on).
Because this uuid is not unique FNMS cannot do the guest-host join, as it doesn't know which host to choose.

Hi Everyone, just a quick update .. I was able to run the esxquery app from my laptop and connect to the vcenter ... as expected it created an ndi file for each Vmhost on that vCenter. When I open the ndi file I can see the related vm's. This is pretty good .. now I will need to query the vCenter where I am supposedly missing some vm's and see if the query is identifying those ones.
Perhaps this is the only way unless you get lucky to select the ndi file when its actually running the rule which would be next to impossible I'm thinking.
Would still be interesting to hear from those who have some expertise in this area.

Hello Everyone, I have been busy upgrading all of my Beacons to a new Operating System which has consumed all of my attention of late, which means I haven't spent too much time on the Forum here.
I am investigating some vCenter challenges where by the vCenter scans are possibly missing some relationships when running the scans. I am just starting to look into where the various logs are kept to investigate further. I am connecting to the vCenters just fine and most of the related vm's are being associated but there are a few which are missing. The Vm's which are missing the Host details are indeed being inventoried properly when the agent runs its process each week so I know the servers are working etc. The vCenter scans run everyday to keep things as up to date as possible.
I am under the impression that some sort of ndi file is generated and uploaded from the respective Beacon\s but I am curious if a copy of those vCenter ndi files are kept somewhere for analysis afterwords. I suspect there are some log files but not sure if they actual identify what is being captured. I run things in the Cloud which makes things a little more challenging since I don't have any access to the Application server etc.
Any suggestions would be welcomed .....

Hi Chris , thanks for the reply ... I may be incorrect but I am looking for the "Stand Alone Version" of the Business Adapter Studio because we leverage the Staging Database for our adapters and I understood we needed the stand alone version as well due to the following statement in the Practice Guide. I know that we use both versions .. the embedded one and the stand alone. I think you are referring to the embedded one unless the stand alone version is available once you install the Beacon application .. not sure.

Installing Stand-Alone Business Adapter Studio Once the staging database is created, a stand-alone instance of Flexera Business Adapter Studio will need to be installed on the primary beacon. For on premises, the primary beacon is defined as the beacon located in the same data center as the FlexNet Manager Suite database. For Cloud customers, the primary beacon is the beacon located in the same datacenter as the FlexNet Manager Suite staging database. To install stand-alone version of Business Adapter Studio (BAS), download the installer from the Flexera Product and License Center 2.0 (PLC 2.0), available via the Flexera Customer Community or Flexera Partner Community. Once the download is complete, copy the zip folder to the chosen primary FlexNet beacon.

Hi Everyone, I will be rebuilding my Beacon servers in a little while (Cloud) so I am downloading all of the applications I need to install during the process. Things like SQL Server Management Studio , Oracle Database drivers etc. We currently have the standalone or "connected" version of the Adapter Studio also installed as we use a lot of scripting etc. When I go to my Downloads area I only see version 2018 as my latest available version ... does this seem correct ?.
If not, where might I find the latest version ...

Hi Craig, I received this excel spreadsheet from one of the Flexera folks way back when we first implemented the Flexera tool. It's populated with our names but you can simply delete those. It's pretty overwhelming in terms of the things to look at but its complete to say the least. Hope it helps .... Bruce

Hi Everyone, we are trying to tidy up our Device Role's using our current Business Adapters and I tripped upon something when looking in the History Tab for the respective device. I don't see any reference to the Role being changed by the Business Adapter ... in fact ... I changed one manually through the "General" tab and it too was not captured in the History Tab. Is this normal behavior or perhaps a Known Issue ..... Just curious Thx Bruce

Hi Everyone, I took some time to look at this a little deeper and part of the struggle was my lack of knowledge when it comes to API's and Curl formatting. I was able to sort out why I was not getting what I was expecting by lot of trial and error but eventually got it. Here is the Curl I was trying to use .. its the Devices - Get Devices one "https://api.flexera.com/fnms/v1/orgs/{orgId}/devices/installed-software?os=&softwareTitle=&publisher=&softwareStatus=" To start off I was simply running this using my "orgid" and left everything as is .. it seemed to run but it finished after about 20 minutes with No Data Found. I then started to populate some of the parameters with legitimate details and like magic it worked .. showing a "Completed" in the status. Please note that when you first run this, you get a status of Created, then it will update to In Progress and then if successful to Completed. It takes a bit of time so be patient .. just resend the message every so often until you see it end .. a completed time will show up. For you experts .. the following is probably already known but for folks like me with very little expertise in this its a must. I found that if you are not going to populate one of the parameters with something, remove it from the string or else it will return No Data Found. I guess because the parameter is there it takes it as being blank and then tries to match that .. not 100% sure but it certainly seemed that way. I tried leaving the softwareStatus= as blank and it brought back no data found but if I simply removed that parameter all togeather it worked fine. Here is what worked in terms of a populated Curl message with all the parameters populated. I removed my actual org id and replaced it with xxxxx. https://api.flexera.com/fnms/v1/orgs/xxxxx/devices/installed-software?os=SunOS 5.11&softwareTitle=Infoscale 7.4 Availability&publisher=Veritas&softwareStatus=unmanaged Hope this helps some other folks who like myself know enough to be dangerous in terms of API's and Curl formats. Hi Everyone, I just wanted to provide an update on this to perhaps assist others in the future who experience similar error messages. Turns out it was some stale data in the Beacon table/s that was being captured in the Beacon Policy that caused some additional packages to be downloaded. In my scenario it was downloading Beacon versions of 13, 16 and 17. My current version was 16 when the errors began, it was suggested to upgrade the Beacon version because 16 was no longer available. I went ahead and upgraded all of my 5 Beacons to 17 but the trouble still remained afterwards, however, version 16 was removed from the list of packages being downloaded. After looking at the packageretriever logs and the Beacon Policy we could see that version 13 was still being picked up and in turn causing the downloading errors. By checking the dates on the Downloaded packages which are kept locally on the Beacons we were able to clearly identify what package version/s were causing the trouble. Engineering became involved and identified that the Beacon Table had some old versions which we being included into the Beacon Policy which triggered the additional packages being downloaded and subsequently causing the authenticode errors. To resolve this, a Hot Fix was deployed to our Cloud environment instance that cleared out the old versions and everything returned to normal after the next updated Beacon Policy was received by the Beacons. The two key areas to look at were the packageretriever log file along with the Beacon Policy which both identified the old versions. In addition, the downloaded package dates which are kept locally on the Beacon Servers were also very important in piecing togeather what was occurring since the dates on the files reflected that something had happened recently as the dates should always be current.
