Does a end-point need a agent installed

Hi ya all, 

I have a very basic question, due being sick i couldn't be in the training for the SVM installation en configuration so i've missed out on some stuff......

my question "is it necessary that every client/endpoint has a agent running to function/report/scan etc with the manager, do i need to install a agent"

No, it need not be installed as an agent, the scanner is commonly executed as a scheduled task using endpoint management systems like SCCM.
