For HyperV, use the FlexNet inventory agent on the host to gather inventory - it will collect information about the host along with VMs running on there.
You may also want to use the agent in the VMs that are running on the host to gather details of what software is running in the VMs themselves. Alternatively, you could use another inventory gathering technology (such as SCCM) in the VMs. However other inventory gathering technologies won't gather the HyperV host-specific information that the FlexNet agent will (like what VMs are running on the host), so the agent is needed on the host to get a comprehensive view.
