Flexera Inventory Agent measuring app usage on servers

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience trying to measure application usage on Windows servers? Understand it is not as straightforward as on end-user devices, but was asked this question by a client.

This raises some questions:

• What should actually be accomplished?
• What insights would one get from this data?
• Would you hope to find server applications actually not used?

@ktilbrook - In general, there is not much value is tracking Software Usage on a server.  Unlike a desktop, there is not a human sitting in front of the server that is manually launching and closing applications throughout the day.

Software on a server is typically running 24x7 as a process that starts up automatically at Boot Time and therefore have 100% usage.
