MS office and General Application Security

Hi

All I'm looking to do is be able to distribute MS office Apps to all of our users on CD Rom, but I do not want them to be able to install these MSI's on their own Personal PC's

We have currently achieved this by placing a .txt file on our machines which all of our packages look for before they will install
(this has been achieved by using 'System Search' and then calling this in a 'STANDARD ACTION' via Sequence Execute.)

The problem has arisen when we try and 'decompile' an exisiting Office XP MSI and 'recompile' with our entries. It just doesn't seem to even look for the .txt file, therefore the install fails everytime.

Maybe we shouldn't be 'decompiling' legacy Microsoft Apps?

Can anyone shed any light on this issue, or I'm open to suggestions to resolve this security issue in any other way....

Thanks in Advance

Mark

The solution your suggesting is not really that secure and won't keep advanced users from installing the Office Suite on any PC.
Any adaption of the office MSI should be done using transforms. Therefore a good solution would not make use of MSI.
