Thanks @AamerSharif This was a really good read and well put together, I gained lots of insight into IBM Cloud Paks. Now to upgrade to 2020 R2 😄 I do have one question... as many environments will already have WAS installed bundled with another program, will there still be some level of effort required to identify installs of primary products belonging to IBM Cloud Pak and manually allocating these devices? I.e., Will FNMS be able distinguish between a Cloud Pak WAS and Non-Cloud Pak WAS?

You can also go into the SAS Enterprise Guide application and set the license consumption priority through there.

I have a number of applications that currently sit in the "Unlicensed Installations" pile that I'd like to clean up. I know that these applications are linked to licenses that are set up as "Custom Metric" for various reasons. An example would be IBM Workload Scheduler where use rights is based on the number of Jobs processed Per Month. Now, because this license type does not reconcile against installations, how would one go about clearing out the Unlicensed Installations page given that these applications and installations do not count towards license consumption. Assume applications and versions are correctly linked to the license and devices are allocated to the license. Is there a technical way to overcome this with configuration changes. If not, what would be the best practice to manage this scenario? I know there was an idea floated previously which was to create an "overhang" license, that captures all of these types of installations but this just didn't sit right with me, although I have used this in the past. The other thought was to simply change the Application status to "Ignored" but again, don't believe this would be considered best practice. Would love to hear how other Flexera users have approached this or recommendations from Flexera themselves 🙂 *Running FNMS 2020 R1 (On-Prem)

Hi all, We're running FNMS 2020 R1 and using Flex (in lieu of ILMT) for Sub-capacity reporting. One of the changes from 2019 R1 was the removal of manually resetting the Peak consumed value. I understand the reasoning behind this and also the new set reporting periods. However, I was wondering if there was any workaround to reset the peak (Yes, I'm aware it's likely frowned upon by IBM). Now the reason behind this is because we've made some license configuration changes around InfoSphere to try and align actual environment with license terms, re-configuring primary products, placing exemptions, etc. All of this work has caused the peak to "artificially spike" before I could put in place exemptions and change Application License consumption priorities and what not. So now it seems I've unintentionally locked-in the peak value for the Q4 reporting period until its reset in the next reporting period in January. Is there any way around this? or am I relegated to just documenting my changes for audit tracking purposes? Cheers Will

do you mean "Allocations consume license entitlements" Yes, that is definitely checked. Oh and don't mind the FNMP typo, I really do mean FNMS!!!

Hi Gurus, I thought I had this figured before but it seems something has changed. The product details in question are: *License Type: IBM PVU *License: IBM InfoSphere Information Server EE (multi-product license) *FNMP 2020 R1 As some of you may know, under the IBM IIS EE license you only need to count Engine Tier servers. So what I've done is manually allocated these so called Engine tiers to the license and all was well, consumption was working out as expected (this was about 3 months ago). (And BTW I created a separate overhang license for IIS EE to capture non-engine tier servers and exempt them manually... no issues there.) Fast forward to today and I'm noticing my allocations are not consuming anymore, well 3 out of 4 aren't consuming based on the automatic exemption of "Covered by related product". Now I understand when this exemption takes place - 'when you allocate a multi-product license to a device that only has inventory for supplementary products'. From a consumption point of view I just want to force allocate IIS EE licenses to these 4 devices regardless of whether they have primary/supplementary applications. Is there any way to do this without the system automatically trying to exempt? I've tried setting Permanent allocation type, that didn't seem to work so I need some ideas.... I'm sure i'm missing something simple... (Also we did upgrade from 2018 R2 to 2020 R1 in between that time I noticed these changes, but I'm not sure if that played a role) Happy to provide more info if needed as I understand its difficult to explain in writing compared to actually seeing what's happening in FNMP Thanks All 😀

Hello all, Under the IBM InfoSphere Information Server Enterprise Edition license terms you're only required to count the Engine Tiers OR Service Tier servers for consumption (PVU based). So in my environment we have 4 Engine Tiers which have been allocated to the license, that's all fine. However, because of application evidence we have to continually manually exempt all other (non-engine tiers) servers and devices from consuming the license. This has quickly become a repetitive and tedious process with all the new inventory coming through, especially from VDI's and can catch you off guard with a spike in Peak consumption. I've looked into restrictions via Enterprise Groups and currently have it set to a Location Group which should alleviate some of the manual exemption work, although a colleague made the point that any device outside of the restricted group would fall into the Unlicensed Installation view creating another problem. So my question is how do I have my cake and eat it too? Is there a better way to do this or have I hit the barriers of the FlexNet realm 😆 Regards, Will *FNMS 2018 R2

Ok I've identified one problem with my configuration. There are several different licenses that cover vSphere 6 in my environment, for example: vSphere 6 Enterprise Plus vSphere 6 Enterprise Plus for vCloud Suites vSphere 6 Enterprise Plus ELA vSphere 6 Standard SDDC Manager for Cloud Foundation 3.x etc, etc... The vSphere installs are consuming off either of these licenses depending on the Application License Consumption Priority. However, I failed to account for them all when bundling the ESXi application... The way I identified this was by reviewing the installed VMware applications on the Unlicensed inventory devices and noting which license the vSphere install was consuming from. Thanks to @mfranz for the helpful hint 😀 *edit The second problem I identified was vSphere 6 Desktop license was not consuming as it should've been, so no ESXi bundling would've worked until the underlying consumption issue was resolved. I couldn't figure out the root cause for this consumption problem (simple Device type license with installs) so I just created a new license from scratch and it started working! Thank you all for the help

@mfranz The primary VMware applications (with a Commercial classification) on one of the unlicensed devices are: VMware vSphere 6 Enterprise Plus VMware ESXi 6.0 @kclausen Actually, I didn't set downgrade rights on ESXi initially as I was mapping version to version but I will give it a try now.

Thanks @mfranz and @AamerSharif for the replies. So I configured the ESXi applications to vSphere licenses (mapped like versions) and set them up as Supplementary products that are not measured for compliance. After reconciling the publisher, I'm not seeing the results I was expecting. 4 out of 5 ESXi versions still remain in the Unlicensed Installations view but the Unlicensed Quantity has decreased. See attachment. After reading the Online help I came to understand there are two reasons for Unlicensed Installations: There is no license created for an application of this name, version, and edition. Every reported installation of this application is unlicensed. There is a license for the software, but for some reason some installation(s) cannot be covered by that license. Seems like my case falls under the second reason which requires some deep investigation to resolve. Unfortunately the Exclusion reason under the Related license just displays "None" so no clues there. I'm tempted to just set these applications as Ignored. Any pointers to how I resolve this exclusion? Also, there are no restrictions set up in the licenses

Hi All, I have a number of VMware ESXi applications under the Unlicensed Installations view that I'm trying to sort out. We have a number of vSphere licenses created that are mapped to their corresponding vSphere application (OOTB) but this still leaves ESXi unaccounted for. I've noticed ESXi and vSphere installations are nearly 1:1, in other words both applications are discovered on each host. In terms of license configuration, what is the best practice to manage the ESXi applications that are sitting under Unlicensed Installations? There are a couple of approaches I can think of including: Ignoring the application Adding the ESXi application under the vSphere license as a Supplementary product that's not measured for compliance Happy to consider any other options or recommended approaches. *FNMS 2018 R2 inc. Thanks Stewart, the pdf you provided was very helpful. We have a mix of VMs on the public cloud, so my only option is to use the Purchase Unit Quantity method which did cross my mind previously. An enhancement would be ideal to cater for this use case, but until then we will make best use of the current options. Again, thank you and appreciate your insight. Regards, Will

Hi All, Under the Red Hat Subscription guide, If you are deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux in a virtual environment, your subscriptions are based on the number of virtual instance-pairs running the product. (https://www.redhat.com/en/resources/Linux-rhel-subscription-guide) You are purchasing subscriptions for virtual instances. How many do you need? (a) Divide the number of virtual instances by 2. This is the number of subscriptions you will purchase for the guests in your virtual environment. So based on the above, if I have 10 Red Hat VMs it should consume 5 licenses. I have been trying to configure this in FNMS 2018 R2 but cannot find an appropriate license type that allows this type of consumption (2 to 1). I have read the Flexera article "Configuring Red Hat Licenses in FlexNet Manager" but don't believe it works for this specific use case as it's based on Microsoft Processor Core and licensing the Host first. https://community.flexera.com/t5/FlexNet-Manager-Knowledge-Base/Configuring-Red-Hat-Licenses-in-FlexNet-Manager/ta-p/5245 Thanks
