Hi, InstallShield 2009 Professional edition and InstallShield Limited Edition may be installed on the same machine. But only one edition of InstallShield can be used per instance of Visual Studio. For example, if you have an InstallShield Limited edition project (.isl) open within Visual Studio, and you also want to open an an InstallShield Professional project (.ism) within Visual Studio, then you must open a new instance of Visual Studio for the .ism project. Yes you can. But, while LE might be interesting to someone switching from VDPROJ, I think someone who knows everything Pro/Prem can do will be fustrated. The tool is interesting and I can think of ways of injecting more capability into but at the end of the day I'd rather just bight the bullet and own at least 1 seat of Pro.

Hey, I know this is an old thread but did this ever get resolved? I have been trawling these forums for days now trying to find a solution to this exact problem. Basic MSi project. Installs 2 services properly and uses account information specified during install. During upgrade I specify REINSTALLMODE=vomus and REINSTALL=ALL and the services are upgraded correctly but the password entered into the service account is encrypted and therefore incorrect. If I print it to a txt file during upgrade it comes out as encrypted, whereas during first install i can read it correctly. There must be a way to retrieve this information during upgrade and use it. Or, stop the service,m but not re-configure it. I only want to stop the service,m replace the files and then start it again. Chris

Setting the ALLUSERS property to 1 accomplishes the same thing as setting it to 2, so it should be setting DesktopFolder to the all users profile. Hence my confusion. And in fact my shortcuts are getting installed in the proper all users folder, such as C:\Users\Public\Desktop. In the log file, I can see the initial resolution of the target folder for DesktopFolder get resolved as C:\Users\ \Desktop. Then when the shortcut gets created, there's another to call to get the folder and it gets the correct all users folder and puts the shortcut in the proper place. But as the install finishes, I get what looks like an OS error about C:\Users\ \Desktop being an invalid location. I also see in RemoveFolders that it is trying to remove C:\Users\ \Desktop, although that location is not in my CreateFolders or RemoveFolders tables. I'm really stumped here.

I've been doing some research, and it looks to me like 2008 R2 doesn't support desktop icons unless the Desktop Experience feature is on? Does that seem right? Or is there a different Windows directory I should use for per-machine installations for all-user desktop icons for 2008 R2 (and maybe Windows 7)? Any help would be appreciated here...

Im stuck again too. So i do see when adding files by the wizard it creates them all as shared. Not a good idea for my project from what i see. It wont hurt anything but just want to do it the right way. Also, when adding files/folders via the wizard i wish to have the wizard create a NEW component for each file or file type. How can I turn this feature on? I know i can do this when repackaging in the options.ini file but how do i do this in the options of Install shield v 9.0.1??

So you've got two different DLLs which register various registry keys, some of which are separate and some of which are shared. From a development standpoint, the obvious theoretical solution is to separate off the overlap into a third DLL (which brings you to a state more like my previous post suggested), but I don't know how much sense this makes in practice. Perhaps someone else has encountered this before and can comment more usefully. The lack of shared counts on registry keys themselves doesn't make this easy.
