Change the Inventory time

Hi,

Is there a way to change the time when an installed agent launches his daily inventory ?

Have a nice day.

Paul

(1) Solution

Hi Paul,

For an agent that is downloading the configuration settings that are maintained globally, you can configure the following settings related to agent scheduling from the FNMS Web UI in the 'Policy' (Discovery & Inventory > Settings):

  • Frequency (Once, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, ASAP, At startup/logon, When connected to network)
  • Start time (please note that this refers to the local time zone the agent is running in)
  • Time window (with eight hours used as the default setting)

The agents pick a random time within the time window configured for creating the inventory.

In addition, you can fine tune these settings using the 'Do not rerun after success for X minutes/hours' flag and/or by setting the 'Run last missed event' flag.

Please note that there is only a single policy that will be used by all agents connected to the same FNMS environment.

If you must run agents at a specific time, the alternative is not to use the global agent configuration settings, but trigger the agent (ndtrack) for example using the 'task scheduler' on Windows. In this case, you have to control agent settings including the Beacon to be used for uploading the Inventory data using agent command line options. In this scenario, agent settings have to be maintained locally. You can use a single Beacon for uploading data only, and you cannot track application usage data.

Hi, thank you for your answer.

That setting would only apply to specific machines, so among the solutions you described the second one seems to be appropriate (local configuration.)

I read the documentation but I can't find the ndtrack option used to configure the time of the inventory. Do you know which one is it ?

Thanks again for your time and have a nice day.

Paul

Hi Paul,

There is no agent option for configuring a specific time for the Inventory, unfortunately.

You can only configure the start time and time window globally, and FNMS agents will pick a random time from with this time window.

Thank you for your answer
