Repackaging JRE 1.4.2_07 for Active Directory

Hi there,

I hope someone can help me with a problem I have rwith the distribution of JRE1.4.2_07 silently via AD.

What I did:
- Extracted the MSI
- Created a Transform using AdminStudio 6 to disable JavaUpdate and the Webstart Icon + adding a launch condition
- Published as a userbased Application in in AD

What happens:
The application installs without error messagen, but no regkeys are written and the controlpanel icon is missing as well as the shortcuts are not there. On the other hand all files are written...

The strange thing is, that if the user is local admin while the package gets installed, everthing is OK (including Registry, Shortcuts, Control Panel). Like there would be some 'inner process' that does not get executed in the administrative context of the AD-based installation... However as I said, there are no errors in the event log, or during the install-process.

Does anybody have a clue what's going on here and how I could fix it?

Thanks Markus

Hi markusw,

Indeed your users need some rights to system to install JRE.
It is not a "traditional" MSI package. It has several custom actions that are operating with logged in user rights.
