Can InstallShield .EXE packages be converted to .MSI packages and published??

I'm trying to setup my First Windows 2003 network.

I'm setup RIS and the OS is pushing out fine.

I Published Microsoft Office 2003, and even have the Transform working. 😛

Now I'm trying to Publish a vertical application. The setup files were created with some version of InstallShield. They are .EXE files.

Is there a utility to convert these to .MSI format?

I want to publish them the same way I did for Office 2003.

I have seen delta deploy types of products that try and capture the changes made by running a setup program.

I'm hoping that Install Shield has a better way of doing it.

Thanks,

Hey Russell,

You shouldn't have a problem with this. Either it is already an MSI wrapped up in an exe, just install and grab the extracted EXE from %temp% or it is a professional setup and you can repackage to MSI format using AdminStudio.

DavidLock is correct...

If it is an Installshield setup file -
In Adminstudio 5.5, use the Installation Monitoring in the Repackager...this will monitor the installation and Installshield will also decompile their setup script to include any other logic or files that need to be added to your capture.

Otherwise, there are Installshield decompilers available out there but are not always helpful and you will spend less time just using AdminStudio 5.5.
