Thanks much for the feedback! I didn't anticipate this lively of a discussion, but it clearly shows that our customers have a range of requirements that we're trying our best to accommodate. We'll submit your feedback items internally, Christopher, and welcome any additional feedback from others. Regards, Josh

Thanks very much for your feedback on the InstallShield Limited Edition (ISLE) product. I'm sorry to hear of your frustration, and we'd like to help. When we released the ISLE product, we worked hard to ensure it had comparable features to the functionality it replaced. It's not identical in all respects, but our goal was for feature parity. If you've found any missing functionality in ISLE that used to be in the Setup and Deployment project, we'd love to hear about it. Please feel free to share your feedback via this thread, and we'll submit this to our Product Management team as appropriate to ensure it receives the attention needed. While it is certainly true that our higher product tiers (Express, Professional, Premier) contain much more robust functionality and features, the ISLE product should still provide enough functionality for creating simple, straightforward installs. If you don't find that to be the case, please provide details. Sincerely, Flexera Support

The installer package is installing software in Windows XP by a non-admin user despite setting the option that installation requires administrative privileges. An error does appear upon clicking Next if the location of install is default (Program Files). However, if user sets a custom location, the installation completes (although no shortcuts are created). Kindly provide solution to prevent installation of software by a non-admin user in any case without affecting any other version of windows or platforms. Platforms: Windows (XP, Vista and 7) and Mac OSx.

Keerthana wrote: Hello, I infer that you have been able to halt an installation if the return value from the function is 3 and now you would like to display an error message using the VB script. Kindly provide VB script part that implements this functionality which would help us figure out where to place the message box to display the error. Thanks, you just answered my question. The error message for the installation stop is just a message box written within the IF - END IF statement. I thought a "soft" message could be displayed in the user interface of installshield but I guess not. I have no problems displaying message boxes. Thanks.

hi. I have a great vbscript. It locates the version number in the registry on target system. Takes only the first digit and evaluates it to see it it is Less Than 3 If less than three my function returns TRUE, Else the function returns FALSE My question here is, How to get InstallShield to retrieve and act on either the TRUE (or) FALSE Value? I have the Custom Action window open. and here are my settings... [Source Location] = "Browse File System" [File Name] = "this\is\a\long\local\path\to\my\vbScript\file" [Function Name] = "VersionLessThanThreeExist" [Wait for Action] = Yes [Ignore Exit Code] = No [Comments] = "Just my description on that I'm trying to do here" [Condition] = "No Condition" I have no [Condition] here because I can't find a way to tell it to "Halt Execution if the return value of the function is FALSE...... Under [Condition] i am limited to selection places to search like paths and keys or values of .ini files Please tell me how to test and act on the TRUE or FALSE return of my function. Thanks Best Regards, Mark [EDIT: I have changed the .vbs to return a 1 if true and 0 if false. How can i tell installshield to halt install if function returns 0? Ir I could reverse these exit codes if necessary. can you help please?] [EDIT: OK, I have figured out how to stop the installation and that is by returning 3 from the function. Now, where do I place a message to be displayed as a result of the exit action? I tried a msgbox("some message") but this is displayed three time in a row? Can you advise please what do do to finish up this??? I got the installer to stop installation with a vbscript function returning 3 but now there needs to be a message display explaining the action.... Thanks bunches if you can help me.]

Thanks for your input but I found a way around this mess and was able to get it to work on LE. Thanks anyways. But in your response, you said I could use the “Requirements” view to do a system search and perform an software requirement and test the presence of the versions by checking the registry entries. This will only let me know if a registry key is present and NOT evaluate the versions for any comparison. It won't even let me know if there is a value in the key. It just test the presence of a key in the registry. It is so crippled. ISLE was meant to be a replacement for the Windows installer per Microsoft and thus should have ea a minimum, the same basic functionality that the Windows installer had. At least I presume that is the reason MS chose to go with Flexera for this replacement but it seems it is becoming so restrictive that one can't perform basic installation now. I hope this isn't a trend... Mark

Hi all. Please help me out here. I need to install the PowerPacks 10 onto the end users computer. Is there a way to add a prerequisite to Instalshield LE 11 that will wrap up the file "VisualBasicPowerPacksSetup.exe", which is installed with Visual Studio in the bootstrapper folder, into the setup.exe file? Then search the users computer for its existence of version 10 or higher. If not found then execute the VisualBasicPowerPacksSetup.exe file before the .NET framework??? Is this possible with LE v11? I have searched the internet and forums for 2 days and cannot come up with a solution to this problem. For the record, I am "not" creating a Click-Once install so simply adding the reference to the VS2010 prerequisites list found on the Publish tab of the properties sheet inside of VS2010 will not work. Any help would be appreciated. Thnaks, MiniMan

Hi, I was using installshield 2010 and trying to convert my project file in installshiled 2012 premier. My project is having lot of custom dialogs and a few standard dialogs. After upgrading the project file to installshield 2012, I am seeing all Japanese/Chinese text (I am not able to understand which one) on the standard dialogs. I have already checked the system settings and the installshield project settings. All these show English (US) as the language. But the text comes in Japanese (in fact, we do not have any japanese version). Any help is much appreciated.

Am I missing something something here or is it not breathtakingly obvious that you should be allowed create a folder in the "Support Files" view in the "language Independent" node? Is there any good reason why Installshield have not implemented this?
