Summary This article details the behaviour of the FlexNet Inventory Agent when a computer is shutdown, put in standby (sleep mode) or hibernate Question What is the FlexNet Inventory Agent behaviour when a computer is shutdown, put in standby (sleep mode) or hibernate? Answer The Inventory Agent installs two services (ndtask ? the agents task launcher; mgsusageag ? The usage tracking agent) which are automatically started after a successful installation and, on every system boot (reference: FlexNet Inventory Agent And MDs.pdf, available from the Online Help). Shutdown When a computer is shut down, the agent will stop. But in the Agent Inventory Schedule (located under Discovery & Inventory > Settings in the FNMS user interface), you can enable the option 'Run last missed event', among other settings. Standby (Sleep Mode) / Suspended (VM) When a computer is in standby, it is saving or 'suspending' the current computer's state (including open programs and their last activity) in RAM, keeping the computer in low power mode. All programs resume upon wake, and this is the case for an Agent scan. Hibernate This mode is the same as standby, except the state is saved on the HDD and the computer is not in low power mode. Again, the Agent should resume a scan upon wake.

Summary This article discusses a known Discovery & Inventory rule issue, where the rule shows an incorrect day selection when scheduling weekly frequency Symptoms When setting the frequency to Weekly in the Rule Builder, Sunday is checked by default. You uncheck Sunday, select another day instead and then save the rule. The next time you look at that rule, the day you want is checked but so is Sunday, despite saving the rule. Cause The beaconpolicy.xml contains the correct selection so the back-end policy functionality does update and work correctly, but the Web User Interface does not reflect this. Steps To Reproduce Steps to reproduce: 1. Create or edit a Discovery & Inventory rule 2. On the "schedule" step select weekly. 3. Uncheck Sunday, check another day and then save. 4. Edit the same rule and go to the "schedule" step. Notice that now the new day you checked and Sunday are selected. Resolution Despite the Web User Interface showing that Sunday is checked, as long as you've edited the rule and saved it, the schedule will actually run on the day you've selected and not Sunday. This is a known issue and will be corrected at some point in a future release.

Summary This article addresses the issue of missing vendor daemons, license servers or features when editing or running a report. This typically occurs after updating the license. Symptoms After updating the license, you proceed to edit or run a report, and find there are missing vendor daemons, license servers or features. Cause When you register a new vendor daemon and begin to import report logs to monitor the daemon, because this is not on the license, FlexNet Manager 'stamps' on the report log that this is not licensed. After you have updated the license, re-importing the report logs removes the stamp. Resolution After updating the license, you need to re-import the report logs. Information on how to update your license is detailed under Editing License Files on page 51 of the 15.5 User Guide. To test the resolution: 1. Download one report log (Reports > Report Logs) using the download feature. 2. Once downloaded, select it again and delete. 3. Now select Choose File and Import. 4. On the Reports tab, select Classic, select the report you were attempting to run and click Edit. 5. Select Next until you reach Step 2 (Feature Selection). Is the vendor daemon, license server or feature present? If this is now resolved, follow the steps above for all report logs affected. Additional Information You may also see an alert in the Alerts or Summary tab stating: "Vendor Daemon Not Licensed". If not present, it can be configured from the Alerts tab to allow quicker detection. Any report logs imported after the license was updated, will not need to be re-imported. If there are no report logs listed then there will be no report data. This would then appear to be a rotation issue and the next step would be to look at the license server, to see if there's been a rotation.

Summary This article addresses how to view the number and list of active servers as calculated in FNMS. Synopsis How can you view the number and list of active servers as determined within FNMS? Discussion You can view the number of active servers from the within the WebUI by either selecting: a) Settings (cogs icon on top right) > FlexNet Manager Suite License The information will be displayed under Licensed products provided you are using the latest license model. Customers using the old license model, which still views Adobe as a separate blade for example, will have to use the alternative methods below (see Workaround also). b) Entering the following URL (adding your own domain): http://yourdomain.com/Suite/YourFNMPLicense/ActiveServersList If for whatever reason you cannot access the UI, the alternative method is running the following SQL view from your compliance database: --List of Active Servers: SELECT * FROM ComplianceServersActiveList --Number of Active Servers: SELECT COUNT(*) FROM ComplianceServersActiveList

Summary
This article addresses the difference between Oracle Database (Unknown Component) and Unspecified Edition
Question
What is the difference between Oracle Database (Unknown Component) and Unspecified Edition?
Answer
In response to issues with recognition of Oracle Database, the following classifications were specified in the ARL: 1. Oracle Database (Unknown Component) These are the replacements for the "unknown component/edition" records. The evidence here included too wide a range of items. Some of them were more than unknown components. They were clearly indicating an Oracle Database or some other component. When you see Unknown Component now, this means that it's unrecognized evidence that's not linked to a database, which should not be considered as a risk (Nicolas Rousseau: 2022/06/02: the Oracle Database unknown component will be soon classified as component, and no longer as commercial). 2. Oracle Database Unspecified Edition, e.g. "Oracle Database 10g R2", these are new to the ARL, and contain the evidence from the unknown component records that clearly indicate the presence of an Oracle Database, but do not have the edition. When we can see the evidence indicating an Oracle Database we need to be clear that is what we see. All of our focus should be put on these classifications, because it means that evidence has been found suggesting the presence of a database and there's an issue with the inventory. These changes should provide a much clearer set of results from the ARL than was previously being generated.

Summary This article explains what Oracle LMS audit evidence is, what it's used for and what determines the output of the data displayed. Question What is the Oracle LMS audit evidence and what permissions are required to download it? Answer Regardless of the inventory collection method selected for discovery and inventory, FlexNet Manager Suite collects Oracle LMS (License Management Services) data for every Oracle database instance. The LMS data has the details (grouped into CSV files) about the listed Oracle database instances. You can download and send this data to Oracle to satisfy an Oracle audit - as shown in the below screenshot inside the red box. This LMS data is collected using scripts provided by Oracle's LMS team. Flexera does not have any control over what the scripts query or the format of the CSV files which display the data. If you wish to display the data in a different format, then other than speaking with Oracle directly, you can use our Report Builder to produce custom reports. Additional Information From FNMS 2017 R1 onwards, the data is displayed only for roles with the following permission: Troubleshooting: advanced access and log downloads = "Allow" Earlier versions of FNMS require the 'Normal' privilege for 'Inventory devices' in order to download the Oracle audit evidence.

Summary This article addresses the error: '[ensure] ...the Windows Service Control Manager port 135 is open for remote connections.' Symptoms The following message would seem to indicate that access to port 135 is required for remote execution operations: "...[INFO ] Failed to gather hardware and software inventory for device XXXX. Invalid credentials or other remote connection issues mean that the platform type cannot be determined. Ensure that specified credentials are valid, and (on non-Windows platforms) the SSH port 22, or the Windows Service Control Manager port 135, is open for remote connections." Cause Firstly the log is providing incorrect information because port 135 is actually not required - this is a known issue. However, the error is being received because of another issue: File and Printer Sharing is disabled on the device. Resolution You need file and printer sharing enabled for remote execution to work, and this uses port 139 which will need to opened.
