Question:
What does the ITOA platform mean by Orphaned - Virtual Machine and how do I fix it?
Answer:
Orphaned VMware devices are caused when a rescan occurs in the RN150 appliance, and the host/VM is not available for inventory as is reported from vCenter. This can be caused if a VM is migrated to a new vCenter, if the IP address changes or MAC address changes, or if the RN150 could not successfully communicate with vCenter at the time of inventory.
If there are VMs that have been classified as Orphaned and you have confirmed the VM is available, it is possible there was an issue with the RN150 communicating directly with vCenter. For this case, you may request a rescan to see if the RN150 can successfully communicate with vCenter. If successful and the inventory details for the VMs have not changed, upon completion of the the rescan completing, the VMs should no longer be classified as "Orphaned."
