Question
For the application SQL Server 2000 there is no Edition information and it has "(unknown component)" in the name and Product, why is this?
Answer
Due to the way Microsoft configures it's server products, the only way we have to identify the SQL edition is to use WMI evidence. The challenge is that by default SQL Server 2000 doesn't write this evidence to WMI and so the unknown component appears to show that no WMI evidence currently exists.
