Incorrect showing License Incomplete/Unknown on MS Server Processor license even Processor information is returned

Summary

This article will describe a product defect on Microsoft Server Processor License type on particular Microsoft Product eg: Core Infrastructure Server Standard Edition & Core Infrastructure Server Datacenter Edition, when consumed device has correct number of processor information returned, Somehow License Compliance Status may still show 'Incomplete/Unknown' due to a defect that product is still looking for other hardware information such as Threads.

Symptoms

This article will describe a product defect on Microsoft Server Processor License type on particular Microsoft products e.g. Core Infrastructure Server (CIS) Standard Edition & Core Infrastructure Server (CIS) Datacenter Edition.

When the consumed device has the correct number of processor information returned, somehow the License Compliance Status may still show 'Incomplete/Unknown' due to a defect where the product is still looking for other hardware information such as Threads.

If the Thread information is missing, the license status will be reported as 'Incomplete/Unknown', which is not correct according to the Microsoft License term:

Core Infrastructure Server Standard & Datacenter can be licensed at the host level and supports a maximum of two virtual instances per license - it doesn't require checking further details of Virtual machine and its Thread & CPU.

Cause

Current product only records a problem and mark the license as incomplete in the cases / license types when it is relevant to reconciliation. For MS Server Processor it needs threads and physical processors. It incorrectly reports an incomplete license when there is a missing thread count on a VM (Virtual Machine). All other editions require thread count on all VMs.

Resolution

This is a defect when it applies on particular software if only requires Processor Information. A bug has been reported to developer for a future fix.

Workaround

Use ?Processor Points metric License type as this will allow me to model the consumption at the host level.
