VMware Compliance Calculation in FNMS

Hi Team,

Can someone let me know how can we calculate the compliance for VMware publisher as some of the supported metrics are not available in Flexera like Per Application Instance, Per OSI (Operating System Instance) , Per VM , Per OM (Operation Manager), Per SI (Service Instance) , Per PLU (Portable License Unit). If we create a license for the same, then which license metric should be selected in such a case in order to get automatic consumption in flexera tool for VMware?

Thanks in advance

Hello, user can create license associated to applications. About metric, a lot are existing, but you can also use custom metric in license type. If at the end you are not happy, use simple device type (installation) and do some manual work.

For one application, the choice by FNMS reconciliation between multiple license could be complex. Main points are allocation (simple, but not automatic), license priority at application level, bundle.

Regards.

I'm not an expert in the specific terms and entitlements associated with these VMware license types, but you can find a list of license types built in to FlexNet Manager Suite 2022 R1 on the following page: License Type.

So the exercise here would be a matter of mapping the particular terms that VMware has for their different types of licenses to the closest functional match in FlexNet Manager Suite.

I suggest you having a look at vmware practice guide:

https://learn.flexera.com/vmware-practice-guide

I didn't find the vmware-practice-guide from https://learn.flexera.com/vmware-practice-guide, has it been moved to somewhere?

Practice Guides that were previously published by Flexera are no longer maintained and have been withdrawn.

An alternate source of information about vendor-specific licensing considerations is the LISA training material. Find out about LISA training here:

Hi Team,

I have another question related to this topic. The licensing metric for some VMware licenses is 'per core' according to the recent changes in the licensing model. I cannot find a per core license type in the dropdown option in Flexera. There is only core points and Device (Core-Limited) (license type).  Which will be the most appropriate from these two for products that are licensed on per core basis?

@Harpreet

I use the Microsoft Server/Management Core license type with adjustment to fit the VMware licensing rules (16 core per CPU and minimum 16 Cores per Server) and unlimited VMS per Host for vSphere/ESX license calculation.
FNMS is not detecting VMware products like vSAN, vRealize, NSX and so on, therefore you have to do manual assignments with allocations to create a consumption and your created licenses in FNMS.

Ok, this helps. Can you please let me know where you made this adjustment in Flexera? Also, can you please explain what do you mean by this statement 'FNMS is not detecting vSAN, vRealize'? Any particular reason for not being able to detect these products that you can share with me.
