Please can somebody explain the term normalize, in the context of the statement above.

In the context of the FNMS reconcilliation, the 'normalization' part means applying a set of rules (normal forms) - in this case the application recognition rules maintained in the 'Application Recognition Library' (ARL) - to the raw data (evidences) that have been collected by one (or multiple) Inventory systems.
The result of this normalization process is a normalized set of devices and applications (software products) linked to these devices.
Based on the normalized data, the system can perform the calculation of software license consumption.
