IBM requirements for FNMS to be used in lieu of ILMT

Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone can provide any guidance as to what IBM's requirements are in order for FNMS to be used in lieu of ILMT for IBM PVU sub-capacity reporting eg. is there a requirement to be on the N (or N-) version of the FNMS platform and by extension the FNMS agent version?

Are there any other pre-requisites that you have come across or have been made aware of?

I can't find much documented in this space from a Flexera tooling perspective.

Cheers,

Greg

(1) Solution

Hi Greg,

1/ Wording from the IBM amendment to IPAA is as follows:-

Sub-Capacity Usage Reporting Tool:

IBM will allow you to install FlexNet Manager for IBM Version 2015 or later as an alternative to the IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) to fulfil your reporting obligations under the subcapacity licensing terms, provided that FlexNet Manager for IBM must be functionally equivalent to the most current version of ILMT and provide equivalent reporting (including without limitation a minimum scan frequency of 30 minutes), and must be properly installed, configured and maintained by you at all times. You are responsible for working with Flexera to ensure that such conditions are met. If additional Flexera products are required to meet these conditions you must procure them. IBM reserves the right to verify your FlexNet Manager for IBM installation using the assistance of a third party. This authorization is limited to FlexNet Manager for IBM performing discovery and reporting of processor usage either natively or integrated with IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT), Tivoli Asset Discovery for Distributed (TADd) or IBM BigFix Inventory. This authorization does not apply to Flexera acting as an aggregator/dashboard and reporting processor usage discovered by other third party tools. In addition, if you choose to install Flexera, you must use it for all required subcapacity reporting in your global organization. Except for the choice of system tool, nothing herein will be deemed to modify any other subcapacity licensing terms and conditions.

All other terms and conditions of the Agreement remain unmodified.

2/ Key elements are must use agents and have the high frequency scanning enabled. Requirements outlined here -> System Reference IT Asset Management - Using IT Asset Management (flexera.com)
