Can beacons be setup for High Availability?

Good morning

Can beacons be setup for HA? Either Active-Active or Active-Passive. Are there any considerations to make note of if this is a possibility?

regards

Manish

Hi Manish,

Great question. Actually Beacons are kind of HA by default. All clients (agents) will receive connection details for all Beacons and then determine which one to contact. If one Beacon is not reachable, they will just try the next one. As long as your infrastructure (network etc.) allows it, just set up multiple Beacons and it should work.

Complex Beacon hierarchies could be a problem, as each Beacon only has exactly one parent location to report to.

Also for Inventory adapters and remote tasks, it is a bit different. Reason is that you would usually assign subnets to specific Beacons to "make them responsible". I guess you could try to mess around with multiple identical subnets assigned to mutiple Beacons. No sure though, how some data sources might react to  mutiple identical tasks targeting them at the same time.

Best regards,
