2 entries for same host with different device type

Dears,

In all inventory, when I look for a host based on Model, I can see 2 entries for same host.

Under Inventory device type, for 1 entry it says virtual machine and for the other it is VM Host.

Could someone please shed some light on this? Why the difference and what does it mean?

Why am I seeing 2 entries for the same host with different device type?

Also for the serial number column the values are (serial_number-global, serial_number), where serial number is some alpha numeric value.

Kindly advise.

From this description (and in particular the observation about serial numbers), I wonder whether the two records you are seeing are related to Solaris devices. One record could be the physical bare metal device, while the other record could be representing the global zone or something like that. Is what you're seeing consistent with an explanation along those lines?
