Can someone please explain to me why a non-advertised shortcut must have a HKCU key path?
What is the worst that can happen if you break this rule?

Thanks.

Actually, I couldn't remember off hand either, so I looked it up and the Windows Installer help had the following blurb in its description of ICE43:

"This causes non-advertised shortcuts in this component to be installed for the first user on the computer ONLY. Users who install the component later do not see the shortcuts because the component appear to the installer as already existing on the computer."

Thanks.
So this is not really a problem as long as you do per machine installations 😄
