Deploying ODBC packages - SQL Database Level Authentication.

All,

I am doing an evaluation on packing software and would like to get some confirmation that the AdminStudio 11 can in fact deploy ODBC configuration to Windows Clients that involve Database Level authentication as oppose to Integrated [Windows/AD] authentication.

I have read before that the SQL driver does not allow the password to be passed via these types of packages. Does AdminStudio do something different to allow this?

Thanks!
Albert.

Hi There,

To answer your question on how AdminStudio does things, it supports the standard methods of creating ODBC DSN's via Windows Installer (i.e. the ODBC related tables, and raw registry entries).

It seems the password isn't stored in the registry, so I'm of the belief that Repackager won't capture the password for SQL Authentication. That isn't to say that you can't figure out how to do it, but it'd take some investigation and some manual steps.

Hope this answers your question.

Regards,

Cary
