OK, turns out the "InstallAnywhere preferences" information is in a preferences folder under C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\InstallAnywhere\100\Enterprise Delete the "preferences" folder and the next time you start IA 2009, you get to register again and that fixes the problem.

I uninstalled IA 2009 Enterprise and then reinstalled. Now, when I run build.exe, I get This is an incomplete installation of InstallAnywhere 2009 Evaluation When I reinstalled, it did not ask me to register again. It already has my registration info. I don't know where it is stored on the disk, but I can see it in InstallAnywhere Preferences. It's not in the registry unless it is encrypted or otherwise encoded. I saw an archived post for this same problem for InstallAnywhere 2008, but I saw no resolution. Anyway, be careful when you uninstall and reinstall, it breaks the product. Anyone have a fix?

Nevermind ... I found there is a checkbox to enable silent install on the "Installer UI" tab.

It's not working for me. Known problem? Yes, I have Enterprise version. I try: install.exe -i silent In the Windows task manager I see install.exe briefly followed by a javaw.exe process and then nothing. Then I install using the GUI and that works great. Next I uninstall silently: uninstall_xxxx.exe -i silent Same thing, very silent, but doesn't uninstall. Am I missing something that enables silent install/uninstall?

So it would appear that I should have set $USER_MAGIC_FOLDER_1$ = $USER_INSTALL_DIR$$/$bin rather than $USER_MAGIC_FOLDER_1$ = bin

I set $USER_MAGIC_FOLDER_1$ = bin in Pre-install. I create a component called bin on the Organization tab. I add files to the bin component on the install tab. The destination path for the files is $USER_MAGIC_FOLDER_1$ I build and install, but the "bin" directory is not created. In installvariable.properties I see USER_MAGIC_FOLDER_1=bin In the install log I see filename\bin" and Status: SUCCESSFUL" for each of the files. But honestly the "bin" directory is not there, and the files are nowhere to be found. What gives? :confused:

If this is in a product bean or a wizard bean you should be able to use resolveString(argument[1]); or resolveString("$J(is.external.home)");
