I'm sure that I have done installers using other versions of Installshield that temporarily elevate user privaleges just for the installation. Of course I've been wrong before. Has anyone else made this work.

We have an application to install on tablets. The initial installation needs to install prerequisites and write to the registry so it requires admin privileges to run. That's fine and works. Then we give the tablets to employees that do not have admin privileges and log in as standard users in the field. When an application update is required we want the standard user to be able to download and install it. Is this possible? If so, how?

We are seeing the same issue on Windows 7 and have always been able to have standard users update the applications which does make changes to the Programs folder. It would be very helpful to understand the default operation of the LE edition of Installshield.

We are testing without changing the version number. That is why we would expect to see a Repair install.

You say that the permission should be granted by default. We don't seem to be able to get our installation to work without being an admin. I just started another post about this. Can you give me some guidance on how to elevate privileges during install? Thanks.

We've built our setup and when we run it we get a message saying that we must remove the previous version before installing. Previously, using Installshield Pro, it would offer a Repair install or if the version was later an Update install. Is this operation available in LE or do we always have to uninstall the old version before installing a new one? Any repair or reinstall capability available in LE? Thanks.

I've done installations with Installshield Pro but my new client is using LE. We're trying to set up the installation to invoke elevated privileges but have yet to find the right combination of settings for this. We are installing prerequisites such as .Net 4.5 and writing to the Programs folder as well as the registry. We want a standard user to be able to install the product if possible. We can eliminate prerequisites and registry entries for the standard user but they will have to update the application in the Programs folder which requires admin privileges. This is for a Windows 8 tablet. Is what we are trying to do possible with LE? If so, can you please tell us how to proceed?

Just did thanks. It appears that it doesn't have permission to write to the registry. How can I elevate permissions just for the installation?

I was disappointed to see this thread stop because I'm having the same problem. I’ve checked both the main Software and Wow6432Node with no luck. Any other ideas?

It does not exist. I already checked there. Before you ask, I uninstalled and installed (including new download) three times. Still missing all SQL 2012 prerequisites. Not just Localdb. FYI - It does have the new .net 4.5 I would hope that an InstallShield employee might see this chain and remedy the situation.

2012 Spring LE is suposed to have, per the release notes, prerequisites for SQL 2012 Express and Localdb but they are not there. How do I get them?

Is there a seperate prerequisite for LOCALDB? I don't need the full SQL 2012 Express.

How do I do this? I only see Yes or No available for the Never Overwrite attribute for components. The help document suggest an Overwrite attribute but I don't see it. This is a basic MSI install.

You are correct. The component is not being reinstalled so the installer doesn't check the file overwrite attribute. Do you know of anyway to force the component to reinstall? This won't be a problem later when I start rolling version numbers but I'd like to force re-installs of my exe while in development.
