In certain scenarios, a virtual machine (VM) host may show it’s consuming on the license consumption tab when the VM host’s status is set to ignore.

This issue can occur due to the consumption logic of certain license types that consume virtual machine licenses where a VM host is set to ignore, but the virtual machine is set as active, and the virtual machine is still running per the last ITAM inventory scan.

Checking under the VM hosts licenses tab and searching for your impacted license name will show the virtual machine on the VM host that's consuming the license under the Device Name field.

Solution

Resolving the issue involves good housekeeping. If you set the compliance status of the VM host to ignore any virtual machines attached to a VM host should also be set to ignore.

If the virtual machines move around hosts in a cluster, you can manually unlink them from the VM host. This method would also set the consumption to zero.
