Flexera One: Azure (Modern Commerce) Bill Connect

Flexera is pleased to announce an update to the Azure (Modern Commerce) Bill Connect, which now ingests Azure cloud spend from Azure Cost Management. This release includes a new Flexera One Bill connect UI and APIs to connect to the Azure (Modern commerce) Cost Management data. The old bill connect is planned for deprecation later this year

Impact on users:

  1. The old Azure (Modern Commerce) will be supported for a limited time, after which users will no longer be able to update their Azure (Modern commerce) API Key.
  2. Support for New Azure portal experience for exports 
  3. The Bill Source dimension has changed from azure-MCA-[Billing account id] to cbi-oi-azure-MCA-[ Hashed Billing account id]. The billing account ID for new source is the complete Billing account ID on Azure portal 
  4. The amortized view is provided by Azure and is no longer calculated by Flexera.  
  5. The Bill Connect API has old pre-requisites along with optional Blog Data Storage Reader permissions and Export locations.
  6. The Bill connect UI is available to connect Bill connects Connecting Azure Modern Commerce Agreement in Cloud Cost Optimization (flexera.com)
  7. When connecting to the Cost Management data the default behavior is to import cost data for the current month. For example, if you connect your bill on Sept 10,2024 the new bill data is for Sept 1, 2024, and onward.  The previous month's data is not updated.
  8. The Bill Connect API provides an option to retrieve the previous month's data.  For example, if you desire to update the cost data for all of the enrollment period or at the beginning of the year or other reporting period.

  1. Flexera API
  2. Azure Amortized data
  3. Parity with the Azure Portal Cloud Spend details
  4. Savings Plans and reservation cost and usage visibility
  5. Direct support for the Tutorial - Create and manage exported data from Cost Management - Microsoft Cost Management | Microsoft Learn for bill ingestion - Microsoft recommended approach for Cost Management Data and also the fastest method for ingesting cloud spend from Microsoft.  Must be used for Azure spend that exceeds $30m USD annually
  6. Direct support for using the Azure Cost Management APIs.  Can be used for Azure spend that is less than $30m USD annually
