This article explains how FlexNet Manager Platform/Suite works to collect inventory from Oracle DataGuard.
Synopsis
Oracle Active Data Guard servers are standby Servers running permanently and must be licensed. As they are in permanent recovery mode, no one can connect to these servers without SYSDBA privileges. When Oracle Active Data Guard is tried to be discovered or be remotely inventoried by FlexNet Manager Platform/Suite, it returns ORA-01033 as it is in initial mode.
From the nature of the application, Oracle Active Data Guard cannot be inventoried by remote execution. FlexNet Manager Platform 9.2.3 or earlier only uses remote execution for Oracle inventory therefore it cannot collect inventory from Oracle Active Data Guard. On the other hand, FlexNet Manager Suite 2014 or later can collect inventory by installing FlexNet inventory agent on the machine. FlexNet inventory agent runs as SYSDBA and collect inventory locally.
