Re-occurring Inventory Beacon install/self-heal on App Server

Hello,

We have recently noticed that the FlexNet Beacon keeps automatically installing on the Application Server that hosts all of the components (Inventory, Batch Processor, Web) after uninstalling manually.

Is this normal standard behavior?

FNMS Version: 2021 R1

(1) Solution

No, you shouldn't. I regularly install the Beacon on FNMS app servers. Just be aware that there are some differences between both. Some examples:

  • The integrated Beacon misses some of the functionality, e.g. SAP integration
  • Scheduling for data sources is different (done via Windows Task Scheduler)
  • Inventory Readers do work a bit differently as well

Hi David,

This doesn't sound like standard behavior. As @ChrisG  mentioned here, there is a self-heal feature. Maybe this is somehow responsible for what you're seeing?

Best regards,

Markward

I do see some correlation that the self-heal feature could be the root cause as to why the Beacon keeps reappearing after being removed.

Should we be concerned if the FlexNet Beacon is installed on the App Server?
