Cost centers in Flexera

How are other currently getting their companies Cost Center info into the tool? Is there a import done periodically or a connector that you are using?

Hi Nathan,

In most cases, there will be a 2-stage process - firstly to create the CC structure in your FNMS instance, making sure it is an accurate representation of your organization structure. This is typically achieved through the Business Adapter Studio, taking data in from a trusted source of truth. This can be a number of solutions, such as procurement systems, or HR, or otherwise - the key is to make sure that you are taking the data from a maintained, representative data source. The BAS import will then reflect that in FNMS.

The second stage is then to link the relevant objects to this structure, to ensure that e.g. consumption can be understood for a CC. This again can be done via the BAS, but source data may come from a variety of different areas/approaches e.g. you may want to attribute servers in a certain subnet to a specific CC. You could query FNMS to get the server list, then build a import file (csv file) for the BAS using a powershell script. You can of course build this manually through Excel too, but we'd suggest an automated process to accomplish this - we know environments will change!

Check your Flexera documentation for how to use the BAS and best practices. It is quite straightforward. If you need additional help, please reach out to your Flexera representative, who can help put you in touch with our Professional Services (if necessary - as before, it is quite straightforward).

Hope this helps,

R.Miller
