After integrating with Azure, We are unable to get the Host and Devise name details in Cloud service provider Inventory.

Hi all,

We have configured the Azure Connector in our environment. We are using Default azure connector provided by flexera to fetch the Devices on Azure environment.

As per the documentation provided by flexera(mention flexera docs link), we have implemented all configurations.

We got Microsoft.compute/Read Access from the Azure Team. Also we are getting the details from the Adapter itself. But the details we are getting are insufficient. The Host, Device Name, Serial number, Threads per core details are missing which are required for license calculation.

Can anyone please suggest the solution on this?

Thanks,

@sreeramyenuga - To see the Device Name, you must scan the instance with a Discovery Tool and import the inventory into FNMS.

The Discovery Tool can be any of the tools that FlexNet Manager can connect to (SCCM, BigFix, ADDM, FlexNet Agent, etc.).  I understand that ADDM does not have an "Agent", but it is still capturing the Device Inventory that is needed by FlexNet Manager to achieve your desired outcome.

During the Reconciliation Import, FlexNet will attempt to match the information from the Azure Cloud Provider data with Inventory Data (from SCCM, BigFix, ADDM, FlexNet Agent, etc.).  When a match is made, then AND ONLY THEN will you see a Device Name on the Cloud Provider Inventory View.

@sreeramyenuga - The purpose of the Azure connector (as well as the Amazon connector) is to get a roster of your current Azure Cloud Instances and populate the Cloud Provider Inventory view, as described here.

https://docs.flexera.com/fnms/EN/WebHelp/index.html#topics/Vir-CSPInventory.html

To get the actual details that you need to perform license calculations, you must have detailed hardware and software inventory from each instance from a discovery tool such as SCCM, BigFix, or the FlexNet Agent that is run against each instance.

During the nightly Inventory Reconciliation, FlexNet Manager attempts to match Cloud Provider Inventory from the Azure Connection against actual inventory from the All Inventory view.

Hi Kevin,

Is there any possibility to populate the  device name in the Cloud Service Provider and establish relationships to bring up the inventory details from any other input source apart from agent based solution.

Thanks.

For FlexNet Manager to correctly calculate a license position and ensure that all software installed on an instance is captured, you need to use some type of agent-based inventory scan.  The native tools provided by Azure and Amazon do not provide the level of detail that FlexNet needs, especially on the Linux platform.

Hi Kevin,

By default can we get the Host details in the Cloud Service Provider Inventory through the out of box Azure connector with out any inventory agent.

Thanks,

@sreeramyenuga  - If you navigate to Discovery and Inventory->Virtual Devices->Cloud Service Provider Inventory you will see the fields captured by the FlexNet Manager Azure Connector by connecting to the Azure API.

@kclausen ,

We are unable  see the Device Name being populated from Azure Connector as suggested by you.

We are able to see Device Name where ever there is an agent installed like SCCM and FlexNet inventory agent. I am sharing one screenshot for your reference.

Thanks,

@sreeramyenuga  - What you are seeing is expected behavior.  Device Name is not exposed by the Azure API connector.  That requires an agent.

The Azure connector populates the data within the Cloud Service Provider Inventory view.

To populate the information you are looking for in the Active Inventory view requires some type of inventory agent.

Device Name will only appear on the Cloud Service Provider Inventory view when FNMS is able to match Inventory Details received by an agent against the information received from an Instance from the Azure Connector.  If you have not captured the inventory from an Azure Instance from an Agent, then the Device Name will be blank on the Cloud Service Provider Inventory view.

@kclausen ,

is there any option that needs to be set in FNMS or Azure to get these device/VM names as well? to get the device name on Cloud Service Provider.

If we map the UUID's in the instance.xml on reader file, is it possible to populate the device name on the CSP.

Thanks,

Sreerama Yenuga

@sreeramyenuga - As I stated before, the Cloud Service Provider adapter does not capture the actual Device Name.  To capture this, your only option is to use some type of agent (SCCM, BigFix, ADDM, FlexNet Manager) on the Azure Instance to capture the full computer/hardware/software inventory information.

@kclausen ,

I accepted on your comment on this to install the agent, But ADDM getting the all information with out installing the agent. So my question is there any possible to do the customization on this part to get the Device name on the CSP.

Thanks,

Sreerama Yenuga
