So does anyone know a way around this? Can I get redistributable added back in, download a package from Installshield to add it back? Thoughts? I realize I could go the non-kosher route of just including mschrt20.ocx to our install and it would work, but I really want to do this correctly. I want an installer for Windows 10, which should install my catalog (having my driver hash) On net I could find that in installshield, InstallSFPCatalogFile action installs the catalogs. Can anyone help me on how I can install a catalog via installshield 2014? Thanks No. InstallSFPCatalogFile has nothing to do with signed drivers. It was only used for the old Windows ME (Millennium Edition) operating system to install the catalogs used by Windows File Protection. I think you want to use InstallShield's "Device Driver Wizard", which will allow you to add your driver (and its catalog file) to your .msi installation. You can find the Device Driver Wizard in the Project menu:

Rita_m wrote: Hi, I am trying to install a driver using the device driver wizard in a basic MSI project but the installer does a rolling back and the driver is not installed. Is there another way to install a driver? I have another driver in my project which is installed correctly. The driver that i am not able to install is FTDI driver. Thank you, Rita Log the MSI install and carefully review the log. It probably will wind up saying that an expected driver file was missing. Microsoft's Driver Install Framework (DIFx) reads the driver's .inf file and any file mentioned in there is verified, even if they aren't used in certain scenarios. For example, your driver may have info for both the x86 and x64 flavor, but obviously it won't be using the x86 files when you install it on 64-bit Windows. But you still must include every file, otherwise DIFx will error-out and you'll experience a rollback. Anyways, log the MSI install and read it carefully (I think you can search for DIFx and view a few lines above and below it to see the error).

The event viewer warning that you mentioned is unrelated to your problem. I see that all the time when installing InstallShield. I am going to have to guess that your OS is damaged. You may want to open an elevated command prompt and run sfc.exe /SCANNOW That will check all of your important OS files for corruption. It will attempt to repair any corruption that it finds (though, in extreme cases, even the cached files could be corrupted and you'll need to extract healthy copies from the Windows .iso or DVD)

Thanks Chris You must install the MSI with the transform. The software tag file is an xml file that gets installed by the transform.

For this i tried to installed SQL EXPRESS & SQL SERVER 2012 with correct COLLATION. but Not Fixed...:confused: So please anyone advise me how to resolved.... Advanced thanks, Yoga You need to install Windows updates, as explained in KB article Q213527. Creation of or upgrading an existing Application Catalog database can result in the AdminStudio's "Application Catalog Wizard" failing or running in a loop. The reason is that, starting with AdminStudio 2014, the base operating system was set to Windows 8 and any older OS needs to apply Windows update KB2533623. Note: Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 or newer do not experience this issue and do not need to apply an update. After applying Windows update KB2533623, the Application Catalog Wizard will run successfully. I tried creating a project of the Basic MSI Project type, but i'm not sure what files to add during the "Application Files" stage. I'm thinking that i can't just add the exe? What i'm trying to do is get an msi for Microsoft's CRM Outlook client (for which they only provide an exe), because we want to be able to set up a push of the software (and our network guys say it has to be an msi). we don't want to go with windows update because we're supposed to keep the Outlook Client as the corresponding version as CRM installed on our server, which we may not always be patching the second a new one comes out. So anyhow, hence the need for an msi. Thanks. InstallShield does not repackage software. What you need is AdminStudio. AdminStudio includes tools such as Repackager, which can be used to repackage software into the MSI format.

The files in the MSM are being installed with the WIX install but the InstallScript CA is not being called. I'm not the WIX (3.6) expert and neither is the responsible developer so we're both stuck. Any ideas why this only works with IS projects? Maybe check the Binary table and verify that a file named ISSetup.dll. has been merged into the WIX install. Your InstallScript custom action needs it. I would expect that it's already part of your Merge Module project, but it's possible that it isn't. I don't know what steps were performed to create your Merge Module, but I'm wondering if that ISSetup.dll was already part of the MSI (and therefore maybe InstallShield didn't think it needed to also add it to the Merge Module). I think if you perform a verbose logging of the failing WIX install, you should see an error message about it skipping the InstallScript custom action due to it not seeing the ISSetup.dll.

tatsmagina wrote: Dear all, I have a question about creating program version dependent shortcuts in the Windows program menu. I am using Install Shield 2014 and I am creating an MSI Basic project. After installing the program, a shortcut should be added to the Windows program menu. My problem is that there are two different program versions that need to be installable via the same installation file. Depending on which program version is installed, a shortcut with a specific name should be added to the program menu. If version A is installed, a shortcut with the version A specific name is added to the menu. If version B is installed, a shortcut with the version B specific name is added to the menu. I have tried to enter the name of the version dependent shortcuts in the command line. However, I didn't manage to create the shortcut I needed. I hope anybody can help me with this one. Many thanks in advance, Dynamic shortcut names are not supported by Windows Installer, so you may need to use a custom action to create the shortcut. And I say "may need to" because I'm not entirely clear on what your install looks like... ...it almost seems as if you have two different target files, of which only one gets installed (based on the user's choices during the installation routine). If that is the situation, then those two target files should be in separate components, each with their own shortcut (with the appropriate version specific name). You would then simply place conditions on those two components so that only the appropriate component gets installed. The following Flexera Software KB article has more information about Windows Installer's inability to create dynamically named shortcuts: h t t p s : / / flexeracommunity.force.com/customer/articles/en_US/INFO/Dynamic-Shortcut-Names https://flexeracommunity.force.com/customer/articles/en_US/INFO/Dynamic-Shortcut-Names

Note, I don't need to worry about the actual data and code files, they're already under version control. I'm just wondering about the structure of the IS project itself. If you're making use of InstallScript custom actions, you would also need to deal with the InstallScript (.rul) file too. But other than that, I think it would be sufficient to copy the .ism file into Subversion.

I saved the MST and it created a cab file for me. When I run the install, it does not update the file. Instead, the original xml config file is still there. Why isn't the update file applying itself to the install directory? Did I miss something? Is that .config file the Key (AKA KeyPath) of its component? Components are atomic units that install their payload in an all-or-nothing fashion. If the component that it belongs to uses another resource as its key, it may not see any reason to install.

When following your steps on a freshly installed copy of InstallShield 2014, the following three warnings are issued: ISDEV : warning -7235: InstallShield could not create the software identification tag because the Tag Creator ID setting in the General Information view is empty. Does this install have a configuration ini that we can edit to set InstanceName, SecurityMode etc Appreciate your help No, I do not believe it operates in that fashion. But you can use the Prerequisite Editor to create your own variant of the PRQ that makes use of an INI. You would need to spend a little time researching on Microsoft's website to figure out exactly what command line to feed to the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP2 (x86) setup. Once you've figured out the correct command line options and configuration file settings, you can make your own variant of the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP2 (x86) PRQ file by right-clicking on it from the Redistributables view and choosing Edit Prerequisite: This opens the Prerequisite Editor, which is where you can modify the command line options and add additional files (such as a configuration INI) which your command line options can refer to.
