On further investigation, it appears that the user description was not 100% clear. They are starting the application from a RDC session, leaving the application running, logging out of RDC, then going to the physical computer and logging in again. The application is still running of course. We allow , via setting of DUP_GROUP=UHD in the license file to run multiple copies on the same machine. When they launch another copy of the app while at the physical machine, they consume licenses they would not expect. Clearly the 'old' RDC session is seen as different to the physically-at-the-computer session when it comes to licenses and DUP_GROUP

A number of users are complaining licenses are 'often' not being returned when working remotely. They are connecting to their "work" Windows desktop over RDC. They exit the software normally but the server is still holding the license. If they do not use RDC ( i.e. they are physically at their work computer) they don't see the issue. The server version is 11.16.1 running on Windows. I have looked at the server logs and I see licenses being checked out, but not being returned as the users report. We are not using "linger" or any unusual flex settings.

Thanks for the tips!. I eventually found the problem by rolling back installer changes. I had renamed a component without generating a new GUID for it. Clearly this upset something somewhere....

I have built a Windows .MSI installer using IS 2018 for a desktop application. It is quite a complex installer now with many components. After running our installer , the program appears to be properly installed and no errors are reported. I can start it from the "Start" menu with no issues. However, and this is something new, whenever a file (with our extension) is double/clicked/opened from Windows Explorer, the installer starts again, and the MSI log file reports at the end.... "MSI (s) (D8:B8) [17:09:48:401]: Windows Installer reconfigured the product...." This happens repeatedly. That is , even after this "reconfiguration" runs once, it will continue to run every time a file is opened from Windows 10 Explorer. I must admit to be struggling to understand "what" Windows thinks needs " reconfiguring". Can someone direct me to perhaps something in the log that would help me debug this?

I really don't understand what in our installer triggers this behavior? The installer is a .MSI installer created by IS 2015. Assume our software is installed by the system administrator . However, when a regular user goes to run the software for the first time, the system then tries to locate and run the installer again. After the installer 'does its thing' the software starts and runs normally from then on for that user.

I installed IS 2016 Premier on another Windows machine, and pointed it at the license server machine, and IS 2016 Premier ran successfully So it appears IS 2016 Premier cannot be installed on the same machine as the license server. This is a really annoying restriction and not documented .

I have installed the lmadmin license server on the same machine as I have installed IS 2016. I have activated a license on this machine. I too am unable to install ( using the most recent installers) IS Premier 2016 on my Windows 7 machine, using either the full installer or the web installer. Are the official installers going to be fixed at some point?

We are licensed to use InstallShield 2016 Professional I have downloaded both the Web installer and the "full" installer for IS Professional 2016. When I double-click either installer I get the "Do you want to run this file" message from Windows, then .... nothing. The installer never starts. This happens with both installers.
