Thanks for the response. I have placed the start process step after the install finalize and we are still getting the same behavior. I am not sure what you mean by create a service to start the process.

I have a basic msi project that checks to see if an app is installed via the product code and if so, call the msi with an uninstall switch. What I need to do is present the user with a message box explaining that we are uninstalling the application and replacing it with app y before the uninstall happens. Ideas on how to do this?

Here are my results With both set to be used The process starts twice, once at the end of the install and the second starts when I click finish in the installer With the CU enabled only One process starts, but only after clicking finish With the Shortcut only Again one process starts, but only after clicking finish I need to have this process start, but before the user clicks finish and it needs to start every time someone logs in to the machine Ideas? I have tried two different ways to install and start a .NET service and while the install works fine, the start is not working. This is all that is in the msi log. Action start 14:31:53: StartNativeService. CustomAction StartNativeService returned actual error code 2 but will be translated to success due to continue marking Action ended 14:31:53: StartNativeService. Return value 1. I am able to start the service manually after the install. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks, so to clear there is no way to prevent 2 different users from installing the same application on the same machine using Installshield or Windows installer?

I have my project set to check and see if the upgradecode exists on a machine. If it finds the code exists, it pops up a message. I have tested this has working, but when I install my application as user 1 and then switch to user 2 on the same machine and run the same MSI, I would expect the same behavior. What I am seeing it that it does not see the upgradecode as existing for the second user. Am I not understanding how this works and is there a way to make this work with 2 different users? Thanks
