One other thing: the virtual directories remain in IIS, in name, at least--no contents within. (When selecting one, "the system cannot find the path specified" obtains.) Not sure if that is the reason for this, but this is quite frustrating, as I need those websites deleted when a user removes the application. Thanks for any advice...

Hi Josh, I'm running into the same problem: the websites are not deleted from IIS though I set them to do so from the IDE (using IS 2010). I tried your method, creating two registry entries for the two ports I create during installation and setting up a system search. Unfortunately, even then the websites remain after a Remove.

Is it possible to supply an INSTALLDIR to an msi file (Basic MSI installation) from a command line? I've tried creating a property called INSTALLDEST in the IDE, assigning it INSTALLDIR, and then using INSTALLDEST=" " from the command line. No dice, as of yet, and I'm wondering if I'm just spinning my wheels trying to do this. Thanks to anyone who knows how to do this or for telling me to quit trying. 😉

It was indeed due to that Shared flag being set to Yes and the application being installed elsewhere on the target system. (The first thing I had checked when I first noticed this was the "Permanent" setting. 😄 ) Thanks, Lurean for your help.

Hello, I have created a Basic MSI installation for an application that is normally distributed in an Installscript MSI package. The DLL file groups are not being uninstalled during a remove of this Basic MSI package. (They are correctly uninstalled in the IS MSI project.) One difference is that these DLLs contained in the file group in the Basic MSI project have a key file, which I don't define in the IS MSI project. I must be missing a straightforward concept here about the use of key files, but am currently stumped as to why it would orphan these files. I'm reviewing documentation and relevant posts to figure this out, but if anyone can enlighten me, I would be most appreciative.

Hello, When our VB apps are installed on a Windows 7 system, they will only work when set to XP compatibility mode. Can anyone offer a way (registry fiddle, perhaps) that these could be set to compatibility mode during installation? I haven't yet found anything on this forum, but perhaps someone out there has also grappled with this. Thanks for any info...

Hello, I would like to automatically log my installations, but need to supply a consistent location at which the end user could find the log if needed. Since a variable like [INSTALLDIR] has not yet been resolved, what could I use specific to Windows Installer? (I've tried, for instance, /l*v "%TEMP%\Installation.log", but then couldn't find the log file.) Thanks for any info...

In case it helps anyone, the solution that worked for me was to upgrade to IS 2010; the virtual directories were then created as expected.

Hello, For what it's worth, I too ran into this problem with IS 2009, and beat my head against a wall in search of solution, which was never forthcoming--could never figure out why the virtual dirs were not being created. After upgrading to IS 2010, the virtual directories are created.

Hello, I have IS 2008 and 2009 installed on my build/dev machine, and wish to uninstall the former to free up some disk space. My installation projects have been upgraded to 2009, so is there any harm in removing 2008? (There's no longer a \Program Files\InstallShield\2008 folder, though it does have an entry in ARP.) I don't want to remove any shared files in so doing. Thanks for any advice...
