In reference to >this topic< as it is already closed. We often have very detailed local, unrecognized evidence, e.g.: Altiris Inventory Solution - 8.5.4273.0 Now what we do is: - if there's an application in the ARL: Altiris Inventory Solution 8.5 we assign it to it - if there isn't - we create a local Application However we're fully aware that whenever Flexera publishes an ARL version containing this specific Application this evidence will not be considered overlapping because of the format of evidence Flexera will but into ARL It is going to be: Altiris Inventory Solution - 8.5.% Effectively this means that we will have to go over our local applications once there's a new ARL version, and manually reassign evidence to the officially published ones. Wasting time of the same, trivial, tasks twice or deal with a cluttered Applications list, potential miscalculations of consumption, etc. Is there any mechanism in place that could make our life simpler? We often times find creating local Apps pointless* and treat it as a last resort and one of the most hated tasks because we fully recognize the uselessness of the activity in the long run, instead we take the risks and say we will wait a month or two only so that we don't have to go through this process... *depends on the potential licensing impact, sometimes you have to swallow the pride, grit the teeth and do it anyway.

Isn't it so that this is the case for Linux licenses only? AFAIK Unix ones are still Tiered.

Hi, thanks a lot for updating the views - works good. Though we noticed that out of 20 vCenters in scope on our test environment 18 had their names matched via IP but 2 didn't. We verified that those two do have active inventories in FNMS and that their IP match so we don't really see why this didn't work. Can you propose any troubleshooting steps for us to investigate it?

Hi, we just implemented these custom views: https://community.flexera.com/t5/FlexNet-Manager-Knowledge-Base/Virtualization-Discovery-and-Inventory-Details-Custom-Views/ta-p/6025 We noticed two issues with them: Virtualization Overview incl. vCenters (NR) - identifies vCenters by their IP. Even though the other report recognizes their hostnames. We'd rather have them listed using their hostnames as it's a more friendly naming. All VMware VMs have their status set to either Stopped or Suspended. None of them is set as Running even though there're powered on VMs if you look into the vROPS reports from VMware. Is there any updated version of those views that would solve these issues? I'm running FNMS 2018 R2 on prem.

Hi Natalie, appreciate this update A LOT. However I still see several (n<30) Veritas' applications with ambiguous names even though they can be easily matched to reasonable names, e.g. VRTSpddea (multiple versions). They are not new, I guess someone just missed them.

Do you know if it's possible to de-allocate all users during the new import in BAS? Or does it need a dedicated mechanic to first de-allocate users (via SQL? or manually) and then the one implemented previously to allocate a new list of users. At this point, since I'm exporting a list of users to allocate from the AD group, it is easier for me to do a clean allocation every time instead of incremental updates.

Also, is there anything that SQL can do to prevent this issue from happening while they deploy a new instance of the SQL? Prevention is better than cure.

I have several hundred of the unknown component installations along with regular, recognized, edition installations. I can't possibly ask SQL team to cycle through all those devices. Isn't there any better workaround?

Isn't it so that Flexera recognizes software in containers as if it was installed on the host operating system? I'm wondering if once could go from that with some custom scripting.

Yes, well, but if you have two or more GZ on a single host (technically possible) then all those GZs inherit HW data as if they were the only GZ which may lead to miscalculations. As you said it will work with custom points-set but you need to be fully aware of the environment and act accordingly.

Can it though? Having Oracle virtualization configured the way it is configured (dummy assets and inventories created for Oracle Global Zones) I don't think it can. Especially if you have multiple Global Zones on a single physical host.

Thanks for both. Under what key words one can search through the knowledge base / learning center to find information on creating those custom SQL queries? Maybe I won't apply it to this case but I'd like to analyze options for other scenarios in the future.

Hi mfranz, thank you for your input. Actually the CIS example you shared is quite good one. For the sake of this discussion, let's assume I do deploy only CIS STD in the environment and while having entitlements I'd like to prioritize CIS STD licenses for every host with total number of virtual OSEs LT 12 and to use DC for any host exceeding 12 VMs. You're saying that as long as it's virtually possible to be achieved all the magic has to be done outside of Flexera via custom scripting, huh? I agree that most of those scenarios are very customer's specific but I imagined that for more ore less obvious case scenarios there'd be something to make use out of the box. Can you advise on the best way to track license consumption if it's dependent on two factors at the same time (e.g. total number of users LT 100 and at the sime time total number of all the installations LT 200). Maximum number of installations per user won't do as in scenario I'm thinking about there's none.

Hi Chris, any alternative? I'm seeing it for a single server with MS Host Integration Server installed (without BizTalk). Weirdly enough only on this single server this exemption shows up even though I have other servers with the same HIS version installed without BizTalk. There's no other license that includes HIS nor is HIS considered a suite component (it's a standalone software).

Hi what's the best way to create licensing scenarios while having a license with two alternate licensing models (e.g. per VM or per HOST) so it can be further decided which is more optimal in our environment? I've seen here, on the forums, some custom scripts and views but wondering if there's an easier, out of the box, solution.
