Flexera is introducing a new category and three new subcategories into Technopedia for hardware products. The new category will be called Extended Reality (XR) Devices and will come under the existing Peripherals Category group.
Category: Extended Reality (XR) Devices
Definition: Extended Reality (XR) refers to all real-and-virtual combined environments and human-machine interactions generated by computer technology and wearables.
Subcategories:
1. Augmented Reality (AR) Devices
Definition: A type of device that is used in the AR areas. Augmented reality (AR) is the real-time use of information in the form of text, graphics, audio, and other virtual enhancements integrated with real-world objects.
2. Mixed Reality (MR) Devices
Definition: A type of device that is used in the MR areas. Mixed reality (MR) is the merging of real and virtual worlds to produce new environments and visualizations, where physical and digital objects co-exist and interact in real-time. Mixed reality does not exclusively take place in either the physical world or virtual world but is a hybrid of reality and virtual reality.
3. Virtual Reality (VR) Devices
Definition: A type of device that is used in the VR areas. Virtual reality (VR) is a simulated experience that can be similar to or completely different from the real world. Applications of virtual reality include entertainment (e.g., video games), education (e.g., medical or military training), and business (e.g., virtual meetings).
