Prerequisities vs. merge modules vs. objects
Hi,
I would like to ask what is the difference between prerequisities, merge modules and InstallShield objects.
Thank you very much in advance.

For starters, the following help topics have some basic information, plus links to more info:
Designing InstallShield Prerequisites and Other Redistributables
Including Redistributables in Your Installation
An InstallShield object is a type of redistributable that you can add to projects. It's basically a merge module that has some configurable settings. For these types of redistributables, you'll usually see some sort of wizard that leads you through some configuration steps. The DirectX object is an example of this type of redistributable.
I hope that helps.

Several of my customers have reported issues with DirectX (setup as a prerequisite) not installing as part of the install if the Setup.exe or .msi file was run from a networked directory. If they run it from the CD or copy the install files to the machine's desktop it installs just fine (if it's missing) though.
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
