Overwrite does not work

Jump to solution

Overwrite option does not seem to work in my IS project. It's an MSI project.

I set each component checkbox to overwrite but still does not work.

What should be the correct procedure to set always overwrite?

I'm using 2020 R2 version

Looks like you are attempting to perform a Major Upgrade - if you have not authored your project correctly to perform this it may explain the behaviour that you are seeing.

Follow the steps in this article to correctly create a Major Upgrade, then build and test your install again to see if that helps:

Just double checking which overwrite option are you referring to? "Always Overwrite" is not a component setting, it is found in the file properties.
"Never Overwrite" is found in the component settings.

How are you then attempting to deliver these files - for example via an upgrade? If so are you using a Minor or Major Upgrade?

Thanks for the response.

Sorry, what I meant was under Component --> Each file's property -> always overwrite checkbox

And the upgrade scenario setting is Uninstall before installing new.
