how to set environment variables in the pre install

hi,
its really embarassing when someone asks me to set system environment variables in the pre install action in the installer when installanywhere does not provide the system environment variable does not come in the pre install task.

Is there any other way,out of it..........

Why do you want to set a system environment variable in the Pre-Install? That would not be a "normal" process. If you set it and then canceled the installer, then you would leave that setting behind. You really shouldn't be changing system configurations until the actual Install step when you are actually installing.
You can always make it the first thing to do in the install step.
