Summary

Definition of "No. of partial processors" for VM machines

Synopsis

This article defines the meaning of "No. of partial processors" under inventory "Hardware" tab for VM machines

Discussion

This field is used for sub-capacity licensing. Its definition varies slightly depending on the CPU type and operating system, but generally it refers to the number of equivalent full-time processor cores available to the virtual machine. This nunber is the main input into Oracle Processor and IBM PVU sub-capacity license calculations.

In the case of an LPAR running AIX on IBM Power hardware, this field represents the Entitled Processor Capacity (as defined by IBM) for a capped or dedicated LPAR, and the shared pool capacity for an uncapped LPAR in a shared pool.
