Oracle Database Inventory in Azure SaaS (Autonomous DB) with BYOL

Greetings!

We are running FlexNet Manager Suite on-prem.  We are moving Oracle databases to Autonomous Database on Oracle Database@Azure and bringing our own licenses.  Does FNMS have anything for Azure like it does for Amazon RDS:  https://docs.flexera.com/FlexNetManagerSuite2021R1/EN/Features/index.html#FeatureList/2020R2-3/RN-new-AmznRDS-BYOL.html  ?

If not, the DBA asked if we could do direct collection of Oracle inventory from an FNMS beacon, using an inventory rule and a tnsnames file.  Would that work if there is no server IP to put in the target?  Wouldn't direct collection be missing the core/socket info required to calculate consumption?

Any other options?  Would moving to Flexera One give us a solution for Autonomous Database on Oracle Database@Azure?

Thanks!

Special extensions are required for inventory and processing of Oracle Autonomous databases.

Inventorying as with classic databases is not possible and is not required. Autonomous databases can be licensed via BYOL Oracle Database licenses. The Oracle options and packs that require separate licensing for classic Oracle databases do not require a separate license for Autonomous. They are licensed with the Autonomous license, including the BYOL Oracle Database license. For Autonomous, the 2 options RAC and Data Guard must be considered separately.

With the upcoming FlexNet Manager Suite 2024 R2 update, which will be released in late November 2024, Autonomous databases running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or Exadata cloud@customer can be inventoried and processed. Autonomous databases running in BYOL mode will then be included in the overview of all Oracle databases and also considered by the licensing.
Oracle Autonomous databases running on Azure are not yet supported with this extension. We are currently working on expanding the new function for Autonomous databases accordingly. The extension for Autonomous databases hosted on Azure is expected to be available with the next on-premises release of FlexNet Manager Suite. For Flexera One ITAM, the functionality is expected to be available beforehand.

If you have any further questions about Autonomous databases and the new functions, we would be happy to discuss them in more detail.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the details.  So with a future release of on-prem FlexNet Manager Suite, will there be an extension that is able to calculate the size of the cloud instance in Azure, per this guidance from Oracle?  https://www.oracle.com/a/ocom/docs/cloud-licensing-070579.pdf

It says customers are required to count the maximum vCPUs of an instance type.  Will a future release have that capability?

Thanks!

FlexNet Manager Suite supports cloud instances in Azure. The extension is required for Oracle Autonomous DB instances hosted on Azure.
