Summary

To avoid being prompted for credentials, it is necessary to add the App Portal site to the Local Intranet zone in IE>

Symptoms

When accessing the App Portal site using a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), the user accessing the site is prompted for credentials.

Cause

When there is a dot (.) in the URL to App Portal, then IE will prompt for credentials, as it assumes that the URL is in the Internet zone, so Windows credentials will not be passed.

Resolution

To eliminate this behavior, it is necessary to explicitly add the App Portal server to either the Local Intranet, or Trusted Sites zones in IE. For example, if the FQDN of the App Portal server is appportal.flexerasoftware.com, then the wildcard value "*.flexerasoftware.com" would be added to the Local Intranet site list.

If adding the App Portal server under "Local intranet", then sure that under "Custom Level", the setting "Automatic logon only in Intranet zone." is selected

If adding the App Portal server under "Trusted sites" then be sure that under "Custom level", the setting "Automatic logon with current user name and password" is selected.

By doing this, IE automatically passes credentials.

NOTE: If the App Portal server name is listed under both Local Intranet, and Trusted sites the Trusted sites zone takes precedence.
