  1. Anyone experiencing issues with LMTools after Windows 11 update last week?

I am using LMTools v11.16.2 to manage a shareable license of the application software my team uses, and everything worked fine until Windows 11 update wednesday last week: since then I always get the error of maximum number of licenses exceed. Anyone having the same issue?

  2. How SLM counts compliance?
Hello, can someone explain me how SLM counts Microsoft compliance? I got one datacenter where I got 14 VMs (13 of them are Windows Servers). In application tab I can see Windows Server 2016 and required 400 licenses on this datacenter. Server hardware: Processor = 1 Cores per processor = 10 I am using Windows Server Standard 2019 license with downgrade rights. Can someone explain me why there is required 400? If I count 13 (vms) x 16 (minimal requirment per core) = 208.

  3. Agents "powershell.encryption_key" setting

    Hi,

We'd like to make use of the powershell.encryption_key setting in our agent configs.  We have obtained the psencrypt.exe tool from Snow Support and encrypted our powershell script.  It seems to work fine, the script has been encrypted and the agent can still execute it.

However, there is one big problem.  After putting the powershell.encryption_key setting in our Agent config, the standard powershell scripts provided by Snow no longer work.  So for example our Agent log says this:

ERROR; snowagent; powershell\powershellmanager.cpp; snow::win32::PowerShellManager::ExecuteScripts; Cannot run PowerShell script 'scan-agentcleanup.snow-ps1'.

ERROR; snowagent; powershell\powershellmanager.cpp; snow::win32::PowerShellManager::ExecuteScripts; Cannot run PowerShell script 'scan-autodesk.snow-ps1'.

ERROR; snowagent; powershell\powershellmanager.cpp; snow::win32::PowerShellManager::ExecuteScripts; Cannot run PowerShell script 'Scan-CustomRegistry.snow-ps1'.

ERROR; snowagent; powershell\powershellmanager.cpp; snow::win32::PowerShellManager::ExecuteScripts; Cannot run PowerShell script 'scan-msinfo.snow-ps1'.

ERROR; snowagent; powershell\powershellmanager.cpp; snow::win32::PowerShellManager::ExecuteScripts; Cannot run PowerShell script 'scan-swid.snow-ps1'.

ERROR; snowagent; powershell\powershellmanager.cpp; snow::win32::PowerShellManager::ExecuteScripts; Cannot run PowerShell script 'scan-toad.snow-ps1'.

Is that expected?  If we use the psencrypt.exe tool does this mean we can no longer use any of the standard powershell scripts?  Those scripts work fine without the powershell.encryption_key setting.

If you know the answer, please let me know.  We'd like to encrypt our own scripts but also keep using the ones provided by Snow!

    Thanks, David

  4. Windows Server License allocation
I have Windows server 2019 DC licenses and i am assigning it to cluster host around 5 host. As you know that Windows Server 2019 DC is core based license and minimum 16 core licenses are required per server. I can easily assign these licenses to 2019/2016 DC  products as metric is set to number of processor cores and minimum license requirement is set 16 in snow but for Windows server 2012 DC the metric is set to number of processor and minimum license requirement is set to 2.  So in this case will snow assign licenses from WS 2019 DC to WS 2012 DC correctly or i need to change metric to number of processor cores and minimum license requirement to 16? Similarly for older version will snow assign licenses properly like 2008? OS Current metric Minimum requirement  Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Number of Processor  2 Windows Server 2012 Standard Number of Processor  2 Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Based on installations - ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

    • When you have WS DC 2019 licenses, then you need to use the metric of that  version. That is core, like you already know. So all your hosts will be calculated by core requirement. You can assign these licenses to the whole cluster, that is easier. Or you can assign them to single hosts.  You should activate Downgrade rights and Cross edition rights in your license. Then any lower version or edition for Hosts or Virtual machines will be covered. You do not need to change the license metric of that applications, like WS 2012 DC or 2012 STD, ... One Hint. Did you already use the Windows Server Assessment reports? In my opinion they are very helpful to see the calculated requirement in case of Core or of Processor licensing. In your case you can use the 2019 Assessment report. That will calculate the requirement, when you plan to license your servers by 2019 version.

  5. Servers missing from Win Server assessment report
I just find that I have host servers missing from the Win 2019 Server Assessment SLM report. Apparently this is due to the "power state" of the VMs on those hosts. The VMs show as "Host Not Responding" Hosts that are powered off are flagged in the report as a potential risk but apparently, if the power state is anything else than Powered On/Off, then the report does not behave very well. Has someone else noticed that? This server is not showing at all in my report:

  6. OS serial number Report

    Good morning,

We are trying to extract some info from snow.  We are wanting to see how many desktops have an OEM licence and how many have used our volume licence key to activate.  The os serial number field in the computer information tells us this as the volume licence PC's have a serial number of BBBBB-BBBB that we could filter on.  Unfortunately i cant find a report that will run and include that field or filter on that field in the list off computers report.

    Can anyone suggest anything?

To do this, you do not need to have access to SQL, this can be achieved by creating a custom view within the SMACC - Inventory Server Admin plugin. Within the SMACC Inventory Admin Plugin: Select the All Devices view. Copy the view. Edit the view. Select Columns: Add the column: Operating system\Serial number   Select the Save button. Now you can select the data  from the view created within the view and export it to an Excel file for analysis. NOTE: You may want to add additional columns to obtain any additional data required for your analysis from the available columns. If you need any additional assistance getting this working please reach out. Hopefully this will allow you to obtain the required information from the Snow Software Platform.

  7. No eligible application installed on some VMware hosts

I assigned Windows Server Datacenter Licenses to some VMware hosts. Some hosts show the message 'No eligible application installed' and some do not: There are Windows guests systems running on all assigned hosts. Why is this message shown and how can I avoid this?

    Thank you in advance. Tim

Hi Tim, This will normally happen if there are no qualified guest windows servers VM's (based on the downgrade rights configured in Snow for, in this case, Windows Server Datacenter) running on the host servers where the licenses have been assigned. Although in reality there may be qualified windows servers, you will just need to check that the windows servers that are running are listed in the downgrade rights for Windows Server Datacenter. Also, you will need to enable cross edition rights as well to ensure coverage for the enterprise edition. I hope this help and makes sense Regards, Mike

  8. Core Infrastructure Server Suite license updation in snow

Hello all i have added license Microsoft Core Infrastructure Server Suite Standard in SLM Quantity 100 this product includes Window Server and System center. The issue with this is that i am facing difficulty in assigning windows server licenses as it does not recognize them properly for licensing. Should i split the licenses for CIS under Windows Server Standard and SCCM and insert 100 license separately for these applications?

Hi Kiran, Have you tried selecting Cross Edition rights? It falls within a different edition group so you may need to select this, plus downgrade rights first. It may be worth explaining what you mean by not recognizing them properly. Are you getting a "no eligible application" note appear?  You could absolutely split these licenses if you are having issues with it, and that will resolve the problem. However, it would be good to work out the reason why it isn't working.  If you are trying to stack licenses, the issue could be related to VM use rights.  Thanks Kelly
