OS serial number Report

Good morning,

We are trying to extract some info from snow.  We are wanting to see how many desktops have an OEM licence and how many have used our volume licence key to activate.  The os serial number field in the computer information tells us this as the volume licence PC's have a serial number of BBBBB-BBBB that we could filter on.  Unfortunately i cant find a report that will run and include that field or filter on that field in the list off computers report.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Hi, Can you not utilize the BIOS serial number column and Bios Version column, to differentiate between OEM and upgrades? Alternatively, it may be that you would need to liaise with your account manager to scope out a custom report, as I don't think that the license key is available as a reporting column. Do you not use a standard image on these machines? Perhaps if you let me know more about what you are trying to do, there may be another way to get around this. Many thanks Kelly

    • Kelly, Thanks for the response.  The issue we have we are currently upgrading windows 7 machines to windows 10 as well as replacing old PC's that cant handle 10.  We wanted to look at Snow to see what machines have been upgraded using our volume key to get a number on that.  The data is there as when we checked individual records we could see those using that key have a BBBBBB-BBBBBB as their licence key while the OEM's show an actual licence key.  Thats what we wanted to filter on.

      • do you have access to the database as that can be queried directly?

To do this, you do not need to have access to SQL, this can be achieved by creating a custom view within the SMACC - Inventory Server Admin plugin. Within the SMACC Inventory Admin Plugin: Select the All Devices view. Copy the view. Edit the view. Select Columns: Add the column: Operating system\Serial number   Select the Save button. Now you can select the data  from the view created within the view and export it to an Excel file for analysis. NOTE: You may want to add additional columns to obtain any additional data required for your analysis from the available columns. If you need any additional assistance getting this working please reach out. Hopefully this will allow you to obtain the required information from the Snow Software Platform.
