No eligible application installed on some VMware hosts

I assigned Windows Server Datacenter Licenses to some VMware hosts. Some hosts show the message 'No eligible application installed' and some do not: There are Windows guests systems running on all assigned hosts. Why is this message shown and how can I avoid this?

Thank you in advance. Tim

Hi Tim, This will normally happen if there are no qualified guest windows servers VM's (based on the downgrade rights configured in Snow for, in this case, Windows Server Datacenter) running on the host servers where the licenses have been assigned. Although in reality there may be qualified windows servers, you will just need to check that the windows servers that are running are listed in the downgrade rights for Windows Server Datacenter. Also, you will need to enable cross edition rights as well to ensure coverage for the enterprise edition. I hope this help and makes sense Regards, Mike

    • ‌, I thought allocating downgrade paths and cross plattform has been done correctly. Downgrade Path Cross Plattform One thing I recognized was that none of the virtual machines have been inventoried. Could this be the reason why no eligible application can be found? Regards Tim

Hi Tim, The Windows server downgrade and cross edition paths are and should be set correctly already within the logic of Snow coding (since version 9.2 release). There are only a few occasions where intervention is required to cover some legacy versions or editions of Windows server. Where you have applied the cross edition rights in the 2nd screenshot at the application level is intended for use where Multiple metrics are required, and is a way of saving you time in applying the rights manually to all selected cross editions you wish those rights to be applied to. So in this case that setting is not required. Instead, the cross edition setting you need to ensure you have set is at the license level. In the third screenshot, the windows servers listed are from what I can tell not inventoried so the fact that you are seeing them there is they have been discovered through your VMO connector. If all the windows server discovered on that host are not inventoried then in answer to your question, this will be the likely cause of the warning that there are no eligible applications installed on the hosts. Solution options: If all the VM's on this host are non-production (based on the ones you have highlighted) I would move them to a non-production host or cluster and manage them separately to my production servers to avoid assigning production licenses to them in the future. If not,  then for them to be recognised and correctly reconciled in Snow, install inventory clients on them.  I hope this helps. Regards, Mike
