Is it possible to create file associations to an .exe that is not part of the installation project?I'm creating an installation for a Visual Studio plugin. I want to create associations to our project extension so that devenv.exe is opened.

Windows Installer uses only 3 fields for versioning: aaa.bbb.ccccIf you add a fourth field, it just gets ignored. Try versioning your setups 8.0.22 and 8.0.25.

Installing a nested msi (an msi inside another msi) used to be possible through standard custom actions, but they have been deprecated for some time now as they cause more harm than good.You'll want to look into the msi chaining in windows installer ...

You need to add a condition to your custom actionNOT REMOVE="ALL" - prevents the ca from running on uninstall.You could also use a component as a condition.$Component>2 - only runs the ca when Component is being installed.Hope that helps.
