Ok, we unfortunately do quite a bit of block commenting so might have to spend some time to figure it out and I will definitely update this thread!

Thanks guys for your input. I prefer the colour mapping from the zip file you sent me. The only thing that doesn't seem to work for me is the colouring of the /* block comments */. Is this a known issue or am I missing something?

Hi all, I am pretty much stumped with this issue. I want to be able to show the user some summary information at the end of a successful build. The information will be very dynamic according to a variety of install paths and different releases. I have attempted this with the variety of controls and basically what I'm trying to do now is build up an RTF file at runtime and display it in a scrollable text control on the SetupCompleteSuccess dialog, but can't seem to find a way to update the control with the new rtf file. Any help is welcome and I am open to suggestions and alternative solutions.

Hi Did anyone get to the bottom of this issue as I am having similar problems. Only some of the registry data is extracted either at build or from using the "Extract COM data for Key file" option. Also, using the self-register option causes the setup to fail.

I got this file from IS Support. Replace the file in program files with this file and your patches will start working for SAB 2010. Let me know if this worked as well for you as it did for me! Ray

This problem I have with the CustomSetup dialog has 2 parts to it: 1) I want the ability to let the user select which features they want but I don't want them to be able to change the "Install to" path for each individual feature as all our features must have a common parent folder (in this case INSTALLDIR) to be able to work properly. 2) I want to use the "Install to" path to set the INSTALLDIR property, the problem that I am having is that when all the displayed features have been deselected the "change" button and location text disappear. I have tried editing the CustomSetup Dialog but apart from crashing my project I haven't been able to do anything remotely useful.

For a release to be fully 64 bit don't ALL of your components in that release need to be marked as 64-bit components? If so, does this mean that you will have a duplication of components that are shared between the 32- and 64- bit releases as a 32-bit release cannot have any 64-bit components? This could make a single project extremely large.

It is my understanding that you can't have a project that supports both 64-bit and 32-bit releases. I was in a similar situation to you a couple of months ago and what I had to do is have 2 seperate projects (one for 64-bit and the other for 32-bit). I did this as all of the components need to be marked as 64-bit components for pure 64-bit support, even though the setup.exe wrapper runs as 32-bit. If you don't run as pure 64-bit you don't have access to the 64-bit areas (program files and registry). I hope that I am wrong, as at the moment I have a script that converts my 32-bit project into a 64-bit project as to reduce the amount of work needed to maintain my projects

I think that I have solved my registry backup problem. I created a vbscript CA that has the ability to run as x64 (in IS 2010). I then launch regedit (the x64 version 🙂 ) from the script and I can export the x64 registry. Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") PathSYS = Session.Property("System64Folder") Command = PathSYS + "regedt32.exe /E c:\test_install.txt HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blah\Bleh\Version" WshShell.Run Command MichaelU, you are quite right when you say that the ISScript is always 32-bit (as far as I know the built install runs as 32-bit). Thus any calls to cmd, regedit and cscript always seems to favour 32-bit versions of these files. As for the REGDB_OPTIONS, you are correct when saying that it should be setup up to include the "REGDB_OPTION_WOW64_64KEY" option to read/writing registry files using IS functions. It rightfully so doesn't have any effect on external app calls (which is my problem). Com extraction makes me nervous for win 64, but touch wood I haven't had any problems with it yet. Thanks for your input!! I agree with you that this is not best practise but desperate times call for drastic measures.
