Hi, Can I run just the prerequisites and not the actual UI? Are there command line switches that can instruct the setup.exe to do so? I want to be able to launch the setup.exe and only run the prerequisites and then quit as opposed to running the actual setup after prerequisites part. Thanks,

To add to the post, I added a new prerequisite and re-compiled the setup. After running it, the prerequisite window did not appear either. Are the prerequisites only checked on the initial run? What happens if your application's requirements change and a new prerequisite is added? I had to un-install the application and then when running the setup, the prerequisites window showed up again.

Hi, I have a list of prerequisites that need to be installed before running the setup. If I run the setup package for the first time, the screen shows up and they install fine. However, if, after the setup, I go into add/remove and remove one of the prerequisites, and then run the setup again, it doesn't get installed and the setup continues as if it was installed on the system. I also removed the condition for triggering the prerequisite so it should be triggered. It appears as if the prerequisite part is not running at all and it goes straight to the setup. The type of setup is InstallScript Project. Shouldn't the prerequisite be checked each time the setup is ran?

Hello, I have a setup package that does the file copying using XCopy in the script. Is there any way I can create the shortcuts via the designer without having to add the files to the setup? I need to place a shortcut on the desktop as well as several in the Start Menu. If I can do it in designer, it would be great. Thanks,

Hello, I have a file that I want to execute from within setup (SQL Server express setup file). The way I have it now is as follows: The exe file is a component and I launch it during OnFirstUIBefore event in my script. The problem with this is that the file has to be copied to the user's computer as a component's file has to have a destination location. How can I launch it from my setup app without it having to be copied onto the user's computer? I can't have it as a pre-requisite as the user has an option of installing it or not. Thanks,

Hello, Can I create a shortcut using the script? I have a setup program that checks files between 2 locations and then copies those files over only if certain conditions are met. There are no files contained within the setup app so I cannot create a shortcut from within the project. Thanks,

Hi, I have an old setup that was done with WiseInstall. The way it works is: 1. I have a setup package that installs all the application files into a shared folder. This folder contains all the app files as well as any other shared files used by the application. This file is deployed every time there's an update and the application files are overwritten to the latest ones. 2. I have another setup package that exists in the shared folder (installed by the 1st setup) that does the following: -Checks the files on the shared folder and compares them locally to see if they are the same version/date time. If not, it copies All the files from the shared folder locally to each workstation. At the end, it launches the application locally. This file exists to ease deploying upgrades as the workstations update themselves just by running the app. I can create the first setup package easily using installshield using the msi setup type. I am having some troubles, however, duplicating the executable setup. I know I have to use the installscript project and I will remove almost all of the dialogs as they are not needed. I need to know whether I can accomplish the following: -Obtain a list of files from a specific location (shared folder) -Compare file version/datetime between 2 files (shared folder and the targetdir) Or maybe there's a better way that I am unaware of as I have just started using InstallShield. Thank You in advance,
