OK I just figured it out. If I go to the General Information property page and click the option for Lock-Down Permissions, and select Custom InstallShield handling, the when I click on the permission button for the component, I can set the permissions for the folder by adding a new user and then clicking the dropdown for that field to select the group that I would like to assign privileges to such as: Users, Power Users, Adminitrators, Everyone....

I have an InstallScript 2010 MSI project and I want to be able to set the permissions on some of the folders where I'm installing my components. On the property page for the component, if I click the ellipsis, the dialog opens to set the permissions, so what do I enter for Domain and User for the groups "Users" and "Everyone" ?

Upon further review, the message indicates that the component has failed to install, but it actually is being installed. I noticed that someone else had posted a similar message yesterday, but I checked and I have 2 conditions, both 2 check for the existance of a registry key, and at the time of installation, neither registry key exists, so why does the Prerequisite component post message that component failed to install and only on Vista 64 bit OS? I have attached my Prerequisite

I have an InstallScript 2010 project that has a prerequisite to install vcredist_x86 (time and date stamp 10/28/09 1:59pm). The prerequisite installs successfully on XP 32 & 64bit, Vista 32bit and Windows 7 32 & 64 bit, however it always fails installation on Vista 64bit, with error "Installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable (x86) appears to have failed". If I take that same vcredist_x86.exe file and install it from a command prompt, it installs without issue on the Vista 64bit OS. If I also write a function within InstallScript, that also installs successfully, so why does the component fail as a prerequisite on Vista 64bit OS? I have tries to use the logging function setup.exe /DEBUGLOG"c:\debug.log" but no log file is evere created. Does anyone have any ideas how I can make this work as a Prerequisite on Vist 64bit OS. Is there any way to captur the info in a log file? Any help would be much appreciated.

I have created a Quick Patch for my InstallScript MSI project, however when I Add the files to Patch (selecting the option replace existing files) it incorrectly assigns the version 65535.0.0.0 to my original file. If I right click on the file and select properties, the real file version shows 1.1.3569.11053 Why is Quick Patch displaying the wrong original file version? When I build the patch, it causes the error "The file versioned in the previous package and has a lower version or is unversioned in the upgraded package (old file version 65535.0.0.0, new file version 1.1.3569.11053). This will prevent the file from installing properly"

I have an 2008 InstallShield MSI application that was installed on a computer, but we are unable to reinstall the application. All instances of the application have been removed, both on the local hard drive and the registry, but when we try to re-install the application, we get Windows Installer error 1714, an older version of the application exists. The GUID in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information has been removed and all entries in the registry have also been removed-any ideas where the probelm in the registry is?

I found a relative easy way to accomplish the task of forcing the installation to always delete any previous version of the software by doing the folllowing: 1) Under Media\Upgrades, on the Common Tab, set the following: a) Small\Minor Upgrades, select the option Disable b) Major Upgrades, select option to Completely Uninstall 2) Change the Product Code GUID

I do use VM Ware, but we actually make many builds daily because changes are made to the bits in our code and each of these changes are made into a build and then tested. In an effort to try and avoid some of the issues that come from upgrading, I want to always remove the previous version, so I'm looking for an easy way to do this. I have created the following function, but I'm not sure where in the script to put it so it does this before posting the message that an older version id present, do you whant to upgrade function RemoveTriosGUID() STRING szKey; NUMBER nResult; begin RegDBSetDefaultRoot ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ); szKey = "SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall\\{0680E88C-2498-41A2-B198-832E7ED5C35D}"; if (RegDBKeyExist (szKey) > 0) then UninstallApplication ("{0680E88C-2498-41A2-B198-832E7ED5C35D}", "/uninst", LAAW_OPTION_WAIT) ; DeleteDir (TARGETDIR, ALLCONTENTS); DeleteDir (WINDISK + "\\Program Files\\InstallShield Installation Information\\{0680E88C-2498-41A2-B198-832E7ED5C35D}", ALLCONTENTS); DeleteProgramFolder ("TA Instruments TRIOS"); endif; end;
