Using installshield to create a patch failed

Jump to solution

Hi,

I have a problem creating a patch (InstallShield 2018 R2), can you please give me some help?

The error happened when building the patch, and the Makecab.exe command windows shows and it stopped at about 85% progress. Then We get a simple error from the log:
ERROR: Cannot execute MAKECAB.EXE.

Please have a look at the log files attached. I'm not sure what exactly error happens or which file has some issues when creating the cabinet files.

Thank you so much for your help!

Regards,

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

What is the size of your patch file, usually we will see this error when the patch size if more then 2 GB.

ERROR: Cannot execute MAKECAB.EXE.

If your patch size is more then 2 gb, i suggest you to go for a minor upgrade.

Thanks,

Vijay.A

Hi Vijay,

Thank you so much for your help.
I checked the old generated patch size is 698M. If I remove some files/components from the ism, the patch can be generated without the "Cannot execute Makecab.exe" error.

If I do not go for minor upgrade, are there any other solutions? Can you please give me some help?

Thanks,

Wendy
